Hi Guys, new here but was reviewing SF for awhile now. I am wondering if you can help me answer a duties/customs question. I am trying to buy a wholecut oxford from either carmina or TLB or SKOLYX. Are any of these customs/duty free? I am particularly interested with SKOLYX since they carry TLB.. Thank you.

I've ordered from Skolyx 3 times now and haven't been charged duties any of those times, just tax and handling fee.

Hi too_poor_for_this, thanks for your input! I am kinda confuse now since I messaged skolyx and he mentioned there will be duties. How were you able to remove duties? Did you self clear the shoe package or…? Thanks for your help!

There will be duties. You can go to Pearson airport and self declare the package. You will have to contact the courier to send you the documents required to self clear.
This will save you the courier charges for customs and you might or might not save some funds depending on the officer at the airport.

Thanks! Will the duty apply even if the shoes I was planning to get is made in Spain (TLB Mallorca Oxford)? I am trying to confirm if the CETA agreement is in effect to waive duties but only pay for taxes/brokerage fee but no duties..

Didn't do anything. I've ordered from Skolyx, Skoaktiebolaget (Sweden), Sons of Henrey (Belgium) for a combined total of probably 5-6 times and never had duties charged through DHL; all those shoes were made in Spain IIRC.

Ex. Screenshots. The bill there is brokerage + 13% HST. Don't remember which order this was for but you can see from my skolyx history (USD) as well that the math doesn't check out for another 20% customs fee, etc.

Not sure as the reason why exactly. I know some point I did read about CETA and the removal of taxes/duties but not sure if that applies to regular folks. I do know that I've never gotten taxes/duties from EU or scandinavian shipments though. Perhaps if the "origin" is filled out to be from the shipping country then we sidestep the issue of "was produced in another CETA country but shipped from a differing CETA country but no manufacturing additions so you get duties on it"

Skolyx comes in duty free for things that are CETA compliant (UK no longer applies of course). It should just be HST + brokerage fees (depending on courier service). I think they confused duties with taxes, two different things (or perhaps they aren't super familiar with the reciprocal CETA preferential treatment).

But I'm frugal, I use Shippsy lol.

A note that NO politics can be discussed in this thread, or anywhere outside of the Current events forum, period. There are no exceptions. I do not want to time anyone out nor do I wish to restrict any members from this thread, so please do respect that this is the very last post on this subject, no exceptions. If anyone posts anything about politics, please do not respond. Simply report it and we will deal with it at our earliest convenience.

FWIW, I'm a Canadian living abroad, and have family in Toronto, and so am quite familiar with the headaches of Canadian customs and tariffs.

I will also take the opportunity to remind any interested parties that the forum is a private platform, and NOT a public square, and thus not subject to any freedom of speech laws, American or Canadian. On Styleforum, you can express your political opinions, barring misinformation, disinformation, obscenity, hate speech, racist slurs, etc.... in the Current Events forum only.

We are all here to enjoy a hobby. So please keep that in mind when posting.

Cheers,

Fok.

How can Holts on Bloor St stay in business? Been there twice now with the gf and people barely want to speak to you. Stuff are hard to find by yourself unless it's one of the brands that have mini-boutiques.

I feel like it's been that way for at least 20 years, so...

My $1165 sweater package from end clothing only cost $165 in fees. They delivered it to the wrong address but that’s not the point hahahaha

Hi guys, any recommendation for a light weighted weekender duffle bag? Ideally looking for something local or the US.

Bought a Frank Clegg before but it is way to heavy for me. I am probably looking for a canvas one with some leather details or stuff. something like this:
