These are great! I've become obsessed lately with vintage shell shoes. Amazing patinas can develop over 30+ years.

Thanks, AHS! Re: vintage shell, my only other shell shoes (PTBs) are also Lloyd & Haig. This is purely by chance (different sellers, different times, different websites). In fact, I had never even heard of L&H before finding the first pair. They each just looked good and weren't too pricey (longwings just under $90; PTBs a whopping $50 plus $10 for a couple minor repairs by my local cobbler). I'll post a picture or two of the PTBs at some point.

Peppercorn :

Congrats, impressive :slayer:

Which is your older pair?

Thanks but I'm just a piker compared to gents like Namor and Watchman1.

The burgundy stitch cap in the back is my oldest. The black chukka is the newest.

nice ones!

those are both Marlows in your pictures, correct?

that is an extreme color difference, maybe they switched from Cognac to Dark Cognac at some point

Yes Sir,

Marlow's indeed.

Extreme color difference indeed.

These Ravello Marlow's are and were a grail for me.

Thanks.

What color are these actually? Beautiful, but obviously cannot be Ravello. Same model number as the normal RL Marlow?

Definitely many differences.

They may not be; "Ravello" but obviously extremely similar. Might I say same shade as Ravello just marked under a different name from Horween to C&J? Cognac perhaps?

Nevertheless, these are what I have been searching after for a long time now.

The fit of these is a little tighter than my other pair, even though they are same last and size...

Ravello and Cigar have always been exclusive to Alden. These are probably just a light batch of Dark Cognac, or perhaps regular Cognac. They do look very similar to Ravello. With all the color variation even within a single shell color, it's nice to be able to get lucky like this.

Regardless, they're lovely.

Watchman1, those are just beautiful. Congratulations!

My office smells like vintage Florsheim shell and saphir products :)

Hey Guys---

This is actually my first post on styleforum, so apologies if this is in the wrong section! I'm relatively new to the vintage shoe game and am only starting too be able to recognize good quality etc. SO ADDICTING!

To the point. I was thrifting the other day and saw these guys hiding in the back of the rack. Recognized quality when I saw it/ from some previous blog posts I've read on here.

From what I can tell: Nettleton Traditions 9 A/C 64294

Unfortunately, I'm not a size 9! Which, in truth is heartbreaking...

I'm fairly certain they are shell cordovan. But I've never owned a pair of shells before. What do you guys think?

As it stands, I can't really wear them, so suggestions for best way to rehome these? Pricing? Seems to me nettletons are pretty rare nowadays.
