I just got a S&M overcoat (the balmacaan that they don’t call a balmacaan)

Likes:
- Weight: warm but not super heavy. I already have monster wool coats and was looking for something lighter
- Sleeves: slimmer than a lot of coats but still plenty big for chunky sweaters. Perfect size.
- Length: At 5’9” I’m not a tall man, this coat hits just at the knee and doesn’t make me look tiny.
- Collar looks great popped or down!
- Herringbone!

Unsure of:
- Herringbone pattern too thin / subtle? Just looks gray from a few feet away.
- A little itchy
- Too conservative / boring maybe? I will only be wearing this with casual clothes and it might skew a but too grandpa-ish
- Belt: never owned a belted coat before. Undecided on how I feel about it.

Not sure. I want to love it but it might just be missing a little je ne sais quoi.

Thoughts?

What size did you get? I think we have similar builds.

That looks terrific by the way!

You're welcome! 36 really?? What is your sportcoat/suit size. I was thinking 40, but I think I may be swimming in that now!
Actual chest measurement is probably a bit shy of 38. Usually look at 38 first and go down if things are too roomy. Small in most shirts, sweatshirts, etc.

Usually not a fan of fur collars and raglan sleeves, but this Cordings offering is pretty appealing. I definitely prefer a belt with a buckle. Covert fabric by Mallelieus, alpaca fleece by Steiff.
