Exchanged an email with Mark to give him my congratulations. I might have ordered a case while I was chatting with him.

Same dudes. Bien Nacido always a treat. Interesting how low they keep their ABV when a lot of other people are making 15.5% bombs from the same grapes?

The place I'm taking Mrs. Piob for her B-day in October has a 2007 DRC Richebourg on the wine list for 4k. A perfectly aged DRC is not a common thing on wine lists. I know that's way more than retail, but it's in Hawaii and restaurant pricing.

Thoughts?

Would hate myself if I didn't second this, but at that level of splurge I do start to worry about how the bottle has lived its life, particularly in somewhere like Hawaii?

I'm on the Gulf Coast of Florida (Rosemary Beach) and managed to find a good local wine store.

The folks are all Per Se alums, so while I think your concern has merit, I'm not going to worry about it in this case. They're picky enough to have their own caviar label, so I figure if that's your level of control, the wine provenance is probably okay.

We're going to do the Chef's Counter, which have available pairings, so we'll probably just go with that. The DRC is tempting though.

Btw, I think the intent of my query was lost. I was wondering what folks think of that bottling/vintage. I so often see DRCs on the list that are just a few years old but this should be nicely matured. It seems to be a restrained vintage but not a bad one.

I just picked up some Fess Parker Bien Nacido, which is my sister's favorite.

Fun fact, that is the vineyard she got a DUI after we left a member tasting event.

I had to take a $100 cab ride back to her place, while she got to spend the night at the grey bar inn...

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
