Was doing a little homework on the ebay thread earlier today and found this quote that is pretty funny now looking back. How times change.
Lol. Yup. Although I'd say that experience still plays a huge roll in this. For example I now understand more about current styles and not to pick up on brand alone.

This one definitely stood out on the racks. The price was the cherry on top.

Found at an estate sale down the street. Definitely didn’t expect to see these. Haha.

I’m thinking an angry wife or a kid having some fun was the culprit behind the eyes. Still bought it, as ties were all $1 a piece.

Found this one hanging in a basement. Got it back from the cleaners and it’s already a favorite.

Wow, great haul! What's the size on that double Mackinaw cruiser? 👀

Ah, the dark ages. I remember them well. I didn't have a cell phone yet when I first started posting on here. I would just have to look things up online when I got home. I remember you had to word your posts carefully too, as many didn't look to fondly upon flippers/resellers at that point. I eventually got a cell phone and then would call folks up to ask if they could look something up for me if I were in a bind. I thought the whole game was over once I started seeing more and more folks walking around with those new things call iPhones.
Lol I remember when you used to dance around the flipper label like it was a minefield .
I'm not gonna be so humble right now and take credit for being one of the few first to just say it lIke it is and admit I'm buying this for a dollar and selling it for two and if you don't like it you can shimmy up a rope pal.
Everybody was doing it but very few were admitting it , i know Spoo and 330CK were open about it and a few others.

Man when I first started, I had just moved to Chicago and didn't have a smart phone. I had printed out mapquest directions to all the thrift stores and had to find them on my bike. Good times. Great way to figure out the lay of the city too if I'm being honest. Also the amount of effort it took to get from store to store, as they were so spread out, really earned me my stripes haha.

This thing is pretty cool, very "period" looking vintage down vest from REI. Probably has the oldest REI label that I've personally seen:

Very clean overall to begin with, but looks very nice after a hand wash with Nikwax Down Wash. It's unfortunate that the info label came off. If I had to say a date range I'd guess 1978 - 1983.

What say you @Fueco ? If this isn't a Fueco item I don't know what is.

That time frame seems about right. I know that label was used maybe late 1960s into the eighties. Style seems like something everyone had when I was a kid.

James Rockford quote.
That show has some great one liners I like to use them IRL.
"He's a banana "
"I'm gonna pull your drapes" (threat)
"You're gonna be on wheels kid " (also a threat implying a wheel chair bound injury )
Many many others I'm forgetting.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
