Way out of my area of expertise. How do you guys tell if flatware is silver or silver plated? Bought some very heavy feeling old spoons with a faded 84 stamp.

Generally "heavy" is bad good - Sterling is usually lighter heavier than plated as plated is normally done over copper or blended metals but there's exceptions.

There's also the smell test - Rub on the metal surface a bit with your thumb/finger and then smell - If it's kinda sweet/sourish smelling then it's plate. Lastly - Almost all sterling flatware will be marked sterling. If no markings then likely it's plate but there are a few exceptions.

The question everyone asks, IS IT MILO? No - Design Institute of America:

Uhp I think I got confused and had that switched around about the Sterling weight. Sterling is heavier than the same item made of plated.

Decent shoes today, not counting the Vans and Nikes I picked up for my kids.

Danner, Asolo, RW Iron Ranger, Xero, Five Ten, and two Allen Edmonds (Hale and Tresana).
