had a bit of a thriftening today. stopped at a spot that used to be my go to place, but is a wasteland since covid. they took 2/3 of the former mens department and turned it into employee sorting area, and have not changed it back. first time in there since feb, and first person i see is a flipper i know, good guy with a good eye, but he is strictly vintage, so i went straight to the suit section. glad i did, found 5 j crew 42R ludlow suits nwt, another couple of j crew suits i think are nwot, two blue tuxedos, one a killer j crew in blue velvet. also a couple of nwt blazers that are different sizes than all the j crew. suits were $14 each, blazers $7.50. The fabrics are killer, i am glad they are not my size because i would be tempted to keep them. there is another bag in the car with a bunch of stuff from a different store i will try to post tomorrow.
First up are the nwt j crew suits.

Glad you found them and not me. My wife would kill me seeing add those suits to my end of the closet.

How would y’all go about listing a felt hat that has been stretched beyond the tagged measurement? Like a 7 1/2 that’s been stretched to roughly an 8? Do you list as an 8 or as a 7 1/2 and explain in the description?

Had the opportunity to rescue this furniture last night. Any idea if these first dibs comps are realistic (for a local metropolitan area market and not nationwide)? Furniture is a bit out of my wheelhouse, but couldn’t stomach seeing these tossed out.

I found the same one, but in fur-on cowhide.

Any tips to find out of this arco lamp is an original? It’s definitely from the 70’s, but cannot find any markings.

More Nano Puff. Sorry thrift gods, when I said I wanted to find a men's Nano Puff I should have specified a hooded men's Nano Puff. Still I'll take this
I happened to thrift one of those last year in my size (no hood), and it was hardly off my back all winter. The perfect weight and warmth for my climate (northern AZ). Just dug out the winter wardrobe from my storage unit last week, and there it was, so I guess I'll be wearing the heck out of it this winter too. I've often said that we thrifters know (pretty much better than anyone else) what garments work and what don't, as we are "buying and trying" all the time, knowing that we'll flip anything that doesn't work for us. That dang Pata nano belongs in the functionality hall of fame . . .

Different subject: digging through backlog boxes, do any of you smart fellas know WTF this is?

1stDibs pricing is always aspirationally ludicrous, so unrealistic for comps. Same with Chairish. This is largely because they take such a massive chunk of the proceeds that everybody jacks up their prices to account for it. But you can be pretty sure you can get half that in the local market, and sometimes more if you can deliver. I will happily deliver up to 4-5 hours away for free if it's a multi-thousand $$ sale. I sold one of those arc lamps for a grand a few months back. Sold to a celebrity chef in LA, who came to my house to pick it up in his S-class. 16-hour roundtrip.

That said, this is one of the best furniture kops I've seen of latel Just fantastic stuff! Kudos! Love the phrase "opportunity to rescue". More like "ching ching".

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
