I picked up this nehru gilet yesterday. No makers marks but reversible and for personal. Absolutely amazing.

We had Brits with us on our tour of Petra and when we got on donkeys to follow the trail, one of them said it would take donkey’s years to get to the end.
They then explained the meaning.

Without doing any research (which I assume you have done), my guess would be for cutlery (based on something similar I've seen before).
