Ethrifting has lead to perhaps a mystery, Spoo, this is your domain. I got this Versace 6/3 db overcoat/tuxedo jacket thingy and I’ve never seen this label before (it’s blueish gray not white, with black text), there’s no other interior labels aside from a MI Italy tag at the neck. I think I got a good deal (if it’s real). The fabric has embroidered GV’s throughout and it looks really cool.

Not on Spoo's level but looks fine to me. Neck tag looks like the one I found a few months ago. Is there a tag stump under the neck tag or in one of the pockets? Any size tag like so?

eThrifitng is not the same, but when a seller omits Gucci from this ridiculous cardigan I'll take it. About 7% of retail.

E-thrifts! Engineered Garments summer 6oz twill that matches a jacket I have, and a Tommy shirt I’ve been after forever. (I had the short-sleeved version in high school, and I think it was actually the impetus behind getting the eBay app and setting up saved searches).

$71 shipped for everything.

Different angle on the music theme; I've been buying some vintage iPods from the 5.5 Gen series, the collectible ones with the audiophile Wolfson DAC (Digital Analog Converter) chipsets. These date from September 2006 and are considered superior in sound quality to any other iPod, before or after. Search on 'Wolfson 5.5 SD' and check 'em out. Bonus is these iPods can be cracked open pretty readily and modded to some heroic storage and battery capacities without much expense. The hard drives they shipped with were an achilles heel, the batteries another. Nowadays the hard drive can be replaced with a SD card up to 256GB and more, if you use RockBox (which I haven't done personally). And batteries have gotten better and cheaper. The 80 GB model can fit a 3000 milliamp battery if you try hard enough.

Shopping the auctions on these is another treasure hunt, because some iPods will arrive with huge libraries. One I bought recently had 70GB of carefully curated music on it and has been keeping my ears busy all week. Thrifted Sony MDR7506 headphones help a lot. Here are the serial numbers for the good iPods; they are not all created equal.

This is mildly fascinating. Is there any reason I’d need an iPod if I have an older, smaller iPhone? (I was just about to dump all my music on that). Like is the sound quality better? Would I also need good headphones? So many questions.

Sound quality is subjective, but if you look at the web reviews the 5.5 Gen is considered to have the best sound. It's due to that model Wolfson DAC chip, which was used in high end CD players at the time. I use various good headphones and can hear the difference, but others may not care too much. I l also like retro tech and having a dedicated music player with no phone calls interrupting my listening.

Thanks! This is some cool info. I may have to check one out.

Also, I can’t believe that’s retro tech. I still listen to Asia on my Walkman.
