and no idea what I just bought but it was cheap and looked cool. Complete with a how to sew book and manuals. View attachment 1548644

It's a Singer 99, but you already knew that from the label. You can date it from the serial number here. These are less common than some of the other Singer models in the USA (e.g., 66 and 15 being the most common). Folks will value this because it is in good condition and ready to go. Perhaps the biggest reason folks will be attracted to it is that it is highly portable. It's kind of like a more affordable alternative to the Singer Featherweight (221-2), which go for good money.

I can walk you through how to test sew with it via PM, particularly if you send me more pictures. Also, eBay prices and local prices (e.g., Craiglist) for sewing machines are very different. Folks always think they can get eBay prices locally and they can't, especially for sewing machines. This one will be easier to ship than larger machines and so eBay might be a good option here.

Not too sure but the unicorn and thistle in the logo would suggest a Scottish maker perhaps.

No danger of that chief. We Scots feel slighted when a Made in Britain label is put on our products.

What you've suggested would raise our appreciation of the English from it's normal level of 'pissed-off' to 'let's get the bastards'

Seriously though, it's just a **** depiction of the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom.

As someone with much history in the area, I appreciate this post.

Nothing earth shattering...

Vintage Pendleton board shirt. Looks like super late 50s or early 60s? No Woolmark, no washing label, but dry clean tag. Thoughts?

Hideous early 90s bill Graham presents new Orleans by the bay shirt. sold comps are good, but probably give to a friend for their vintage shop.

And oddly enough, my favorite of the lot. I barely find non F'ed up polos in my size, let alone made in USA. Not worth much, but I got a pair of madras RL shorts and Sebago usa made boat shoes to douche it up!

Can anyone date this coat either from the Sears label or the union tag? It’s on an inexpensive peacoat I got for personal use, I’m just interested in how old it is

This one looks to be anywhere from 1960s to 1970s, although sometimes earlier labels were sewn into later coats if they were just lying around. A better guess could be had from the overall style of the coat, and the Sears label, which suggests 1960s.

Also, measure the coat across the chest. Pre-1980s, I find that size labels are the actual chest measurements, as opposed to the purported ones - i.e., a size 40 chest is actually 20 inches P2P, instead of 42 or so like you'd expect from a modern garment.

Great, thanks. As it’s a pea coat I can’t really judge the age from the style, but it sounds like it’s a bit older than me which is cool. Very happy for £18
