Nederland is weird. When I lived in CO, it was my go-to quick getaway (New Moon Bakery, what up) in the mountains. I loved walking around there but there is something bizarre going on where you can own a gift shop that only sells puppets and singing magnets yet you can somehow afford to live in a bitchin house in a relatively expensive mountain town.

Haha, this reminds me of every episode of House Hunters.

Hey Hans, I think I've heard of those. Believe it to be a Parisian specialty retailer (Anatomica) that has Alden's made on a special orthopedic last. Very cool!

Anatomica is a Parisian store out of Japan. Really bizarre thing to bring home and hope they clean up well.

Looking forward to seeing the clean up! I love that about shell. You beat it to hell and as long as it's not gouged/ripped up, you clean 'em and got patina you'd otherwise have to pay-up for.

The last time we were in the US, my wife and I caught a marathon of this show. Our favorite line was “We need space to entertain.” Do prospective homebuyers really have that many friends that enjoy spending time in their house?

I also liked the pressure the couples are under to declare their hobbies. Favorite hobby: a woman needed a room specifically for her hobby of gift wrapping.

It’s one of the reasons why I’d never be able to get on a game show.

Let’s get to know our contestants.

Host: So HansderHund, how do you spend your free time?

HdH: Thanks for asking. Well Mitch, when I’m not digging through garbage to find things I like, you’ll catch me sleeping or walking my dog.

The one that got me and my wife to slowly yell "fuuuuuuucKKKKKK OFFFFFF" was when a couple was looking at a house and the lady said "ew, what's with all that stuff on the ceiling?!" and the realtor was like "ummm...that's crown molding." and she said "well it's gross and has to go."

Are there any places (thrift, consignment, other shopping) in Las Vegas worth stopping? I feel like it's been discussed a few times and the general answer is no.
I see no-one bit, so I'll chime in. I've heavily thrifted Vegas dozens of times during conferences, and it's just like everywhere else: mostly garbage with a few scattered gems, except that in the thrifts you will see more black DB suits and Bates patent leather shoes than anywhere else outside another casino town. Also, lots of wacky stuff, like the flimsy, loud faux-Italian zoot-suit-type garbage. I found my first ever Brioni true thrift in the Summerlin Savers a dozen years ago, but haven't scored much at that store in the subsequent 10 visits. You know how it goes . . .

All the usual suspects are there on your phone map: GW, SA, Savers etc., so, as usual, it's just a matter of hitting the right store at the right time. GW has a "boutique" store called Deja Vu, but you're more likely to find a $75 Boss suit there than a Kitty, since, like most other places, they don't know what those are. Generally speaking, don't waste your time with the north and east (except the SE). Most of the decent stops, demographically, are in the south and west. Just follow the 215 around from Summerlin to Henderson. There are a handful of pros in greater LV, but I've yet to run into one. I did, however, run into an NWT Alfani suit tagged $99 in a Savers.

Part two: free sartorial fun
If you want a real treat (but not spend any money) then make a pilgrimage to the Refinery, where you will see hundreds of truly spectacular consignment menswear grails, but at prices that will make your head explode (30%+ of full retail). Sure, those $3500 Berluti shoes are "well worth" $995, but I want them for $7.99, dammit!

Once the thrifts are closed for the night, it's well worth getting a buzz on and meandering around The Shops at Crystals, where pretty much every luxury brand is represented. Try it on. Imagine. Get wide-eyed at the INSANE prices that the private jet crowd pay for stuff that you'll be thrifting a few years from now. Ridiculously gorgeous stuff, though: Cuci, Kitty, Loro, Berluti. It's all there. Just bonkers. Last time I was there the Stefano Ricci store had just opened: a neuron-shredding experience . . .

Sorry for the delay. Here's what I know:

As many are aware, Anthony Sinclair was the original movie-Bond tailor during the Connery era and the inventor of the Conduit Cut. So that's where that name comes from. I believe that during the late 60s to mid 70s, EON (the company that owns the rights to cinematic Bond) licensed the 007/Bond name to different European brands to create a line of 007-inspired pieces(such as your friend's coat). I have a wmns rain coat from French company Royal Blizzard that has similar 007 branded tags

As far as I know Royal Blizzard went out of business sometime in the mid-70s.

Your friend's coat may have some value to collectors, especially since it has the Sinclair name on it. He could try contacting David Mason of Mason and Sons. They own the rights to the Sinclair name now and he might have more insight. Hope that helps!

They weren't making their living selling puppets, trust me.
Edit: Scratch that, I was thinking Leadville. I used to date a girl from Leadville, she told me a number of crazy stories about what goes on in that town.

@Nataku and other military guys - please can you help me out with this?

Picked this up today. I have little to no expertise with military stuff but felt like it was interesting enough to pick up for £8. It weighs an absolute ton and comes with a heavy inside liner that buttons into the outer layer. The fur collar must be synthetic but is nice. Stamped inside the outer layer with ‘46 SzR1986T’. Inside the liner it has a 48 stamped. Is this modern repro? Plastic buttons but top one and shoulder ones have a design on them.

Thanks in advance for the education!

Ned is just as crazy...

Basically, a bunch of hippies that used to lived in Boulder made money on whatever they were selling and real estate, and the moved upcanyon to Ned and opened gift shops.

Headed to a different town a couple days ago to drop off my MacBook Air to its new owner, and stopped into a couple stores on the way back. Not bad. Apologies for the tater shots.

First up, Charlotte Olympia “Emoticat” women’s flats, one NWOT. Apparently, these things have quite a following. Prices are bonkers.

My first J Press trench, and with liner. You don’t see much of that out here.

Re: fathering/parenting - when my son was a baby and I'd have him on me in the Ergo baby carrier thing, all the moms would be like, "Hey, look at you, don't see many dads getting into baby wearing and attachment parenting!!"

I was usually like, "Whoa now, leave me out of your mommy-war trends, I'm just carrying my kid the most efficient way I know how."
