These are 32x32 over a size 9 and are fine. Probably could’ve gone 32x34. You might be right depending on your boot size. Can always try those Velcro snake straps to wrap the shaft a little tighter
Mine are 28 or 29 over a size 7. I never thought of using straps to narrow the shaft. I once asked a RRL SA about this and he told me he scrunches the shaft of his boot with his hand so he can force the pant leg over it, but I can't see doing that because the shaft would just expand again and it would look bad. I've resigned myself to Low Straight or Straight or Slim Bootcut with western boots. But it's a shame because there are so many Slims I'd love to wear with boots.

They’re called boot snakes but in essence it’s Velcro, it looks like. Try em and report back!

At first I thought it kinda looked like baby poo but I kept coming back to it. It’s weirdly interesting to me and I was inspired like Ralph at the K-Market so I waited til it went on sale lmao. Also scored a bottle of Kirkland Islay single malt…Bonus!
I like the way you operate.

I guess my other issue with slim fits and western boots is the leg doesn't settle down far enough over the vamp to look right in some cases. But that's a separate issue, and more a matter of preference. But yours look great in the photo.

Really should go one size longer to get the stacking and not look like a greenhorn when you sit down. I’m all green and no horn anyway, so I don’t care.

Are those Costco shackets pretty oversized, or did you take your standard RRL size? I understand shackets by nature are supposed to fit a little big, but sometimes it’s just too much!
I went small and have plenty of room. I’m a 40

Yes, I totally agree with you about the length. But what I meant was when the leg is too narrow, it doesn't spread out to cover enough of the foot, regardless of how long it is. But that's the problem with the recent trend of legs being too narrow. (I'm glad that trend is fading.)
And I love the word greenhorn! I just learned it this year watching Gunsmoke reruns - they use it pretty often on that show!

No yeah I got you. You don’t want to show the outline of your shaft err yeah through your jeans. You certainly don’t want to tuck your jeans into your boots. Jorts, just no. So my walker roper boot shafts are 14” circumference and the slim fits have a hem of 15.25” and a calf circumference of 15.5”

Edit: you mean you want more material to cover the vamp! You want to try the low straights. I don’t mind showing the vamps, makes my feet look longer (giggity).

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
