retro, have you eaten there? personally, I really don't care about authenticity, I just want my food to taste good. and it's la canada, I mean, yeah.

istasi, have you tried this service: https://www.padmapper.com/ ?

might be some help. Not having a car is going to be tough...

Oh, in Claremont (again, try not to go there...), there's the Back Abbey.

Ricky's Fish tacos is great, cheap. I'm sure it's been mentioned on here before, but I haven't seen it.

Yes, I've eaten there. It totally fits the neighborhood--whitewashed and bland as hell. Half of the menu is Chinese-American dishes that aren't remotely Thai and if that is what you want, you might as well go down Foothill to the Panda Express across from Chico's and save a few bucks.

Is the burger at Rustic Canyon still as good as it used to be? Haven't been back there in about 1.5-2 years now.

yes, it's still the same burger. nothing has really changed. if you want what I think is the best burger in LA though, try Golden State on fairfax.

I love golden state but rc is on another level. It's the small details that set it apart for me and I get it with farm fresh egg and what's basically lardon resulting in quite the immaculate burger for me when I'm in the mood for excess. The char/crust of the meat is og as ****.

ricky's is closed now, the health department (i think) shut his spot down. literally lived like 2 minutes and would grab random lunches from him, so ******* great!

Thanks. RC is that rare once in a while burger, especially at the price after you get the egg and bacon.
I've tried Golden State. I still enjoy them but after their bun supplier changed or something and the prices went up a few dollars, it isn't quite the same. Very small changes really but still..

what is la Canada?

La Canada Flintridge is a small town of about 20K population where the 2 freeway ends north of LA--sandwiched between Glendale and Pasadena at the base of the Angeles Forest.

It is affluent, fairly conservative for LA County (e.g., way more yard signs for Romney than Obama in the last election), has great public schools, and is the home of the Jet Propulsion Lab. It's a very nice place to live, or even to visit (good hiking trails, Descanso Gardens) but not to eat. It is pretty much the culinary middle of nowhere. The first few times I ate out in the area, I felt like Ray Liotta at the end of Goodfellas ("right after I got here, I ordered some spaghetti and marinara sauce, I got egg noodles with ketchup"). Many people in the area simply seem to not care about food, and those who do will go to Pasadena to eat.

Magic1, if you find yourself wanting Thai food in LCF, try dropping down the 210 to the twin restaurants Saladang and Saladang Song in Pasadena--it's worth the extra 10 minutes.
