Well, this weekend was interesting. Germaine to this thread: composite wood deck products. They are not all fire-resistant.

That is all.

Oh, and does anyone know of any deals on grey composite deck boards: 1 1/4 x 5 x 12' - I need fifteen of them by Saturday. PLZ.

And do not speak of this on facebook, PLZ.

Are they marketed as such?

Installed the new over the range microwave. Glad that is over. It was a royal pain. This unit is much nicer, however.
Did just this a few months ago. For me, the actual installation was fairly easy, but the microwave is a little too deep for the cabinets, so it looks ugly. I thought I could mount it farther back than I could, but that would have required cutting backsplash tile that went up unexpectedly high behind the old unit, and I wasn't prepared for tile work. It may be a long time before i get around to cutting and installing the roof exhaust vent I had planned.....

You've got a bad moisture problem.

Silver fish are attracted by moisture, but their mere presence, especially during the drier winter months, doesn't necessarily indicate a "bad moisture problem."

Agreed, but combined with mushrooms or fungus growing, I'd say that's pretty strongly indicative of a moisture problem.

That's true. There's probably a leak that's keeping the floor under the carpet wet.

I'd worry you are going to get mold growing in there and start to have respiratory issues. I don't think it's a "wipe it up" issue--there is likely a leak somewhere, or something has rotted through and external moisture is getting in.

I know they cant wipe it away, thats why it was a dumb response. Definitely a leak, building is brand new so no rotting yet. I'll be moving in a few months or sooner hopefully so it's mostly their problem, not mine.

Anybody know anything about Fannie Mae Homepath Renovation mortgages?

Some nice properties around here owned by lender. The usual caveats to short sales/foreclosures apply but if you use the renovation mortgage, you can add on a decent amount to cover work that would be done. Mostly looks like places that I would want to re-floor and do some kitchen/appliance work which would come in at well under the 35k they allow for renovations.

Newer condo buildings so some of the big neglected-foreclosure issues don't apply--you aren't going to have roof or foundation issues like you might on a house and as long as the condo association itself is in good standing, the risks don't seem too big.
