The grapefruit would like a word, as you seem to think the pear is stealing it crown.
How can you be so wrong so consistently? Grapefruit is magnificent. Truly the underappreciated star of the citrus family. Now if you had said honeydew melons are the worst, we might be able to have a reasonable discussion. But this unwarranted aggression toward grapefruit?

Does anyone (not just SF, anyone) actually do "No Mow May"? I get the rhetoric, grass lawns are bad for the environment, but it's just so impractical that the only people who might do it would just get rid of their lawns.

If you live somewhere temperate, May is peak growing season. My lawn would be two feet tall after not mowing all month, and probably have freaking trees growing out of it. I'm not especially lawn obsessed but I end up mowing almost twice a week during peak spring. It'd be a huge project to reclaim, not to mention being unusable and ugly the whole time.
A friend of mine in Maryland did it last year and it was a total pain. It took forever to mow the lawn after it had grown massive.

If someone wants to help pollinators and other beneficial insects, planting flowers and other things native to one's area is the best strategy. Not mowing for a month is performative environmentalism, imo.

Pears are trash fruit. They're not as bad as durian, but that only because they don't smell like unwashed ass.

(@Fueco's is pretty, though)
Bradford pears don't produce human-edible fruit, just little fruit that the birds love to spread all over the place.

They’re actually edible, but very small and kind of bitter. Or was that an old girlfriend?

You're a monster. Grapefruit is like eating a rotting corpse with stringy pulp.

When the Santa Clara Valley was covered in orchards from the East Hills to the Santa Cruz mountains you could find perfectly tree ripened fruit of every variety from Spring (cherries) thru Fall (pears). I loved all of it.
