Magnolia is definitely one of those films that gets better and better with each repeated viewing. Unfortunately it is 3 hours long and that is sometimes a struggle to get through for me

I remember the first time I watched Boogie Nights; I went in not knowing anything about it and thought it was gonna be a fun little 70s era comedy about dancing.

Have you ever seen Saturday Night Fever? It leaves much the same impression.

Leo didn't stand a chance. Wolf was fun and great and everything, but he just gets nominated during pretty crazy years. The only time where I think he kinda got snubbed was for his performance in The Aviator when Jamie Fox won for Ray

This looks like it'll be fun though

.

Gonna check out The Wind Rises this weekend, I think. There is a a place showing it in Japanese with subs so that'll be fun

For those curious, I am happy to report that Porky's is a classic that still holds up, Porky's II: The Next Day is hasty, middling, and only made so Bob Clark could direct A Christmas Story, and Porky's III: Porky's Revenge, while bountiful of boobies, is for some reason in Spanish.

Carry on...

Post about films

What you are watching. What you should watch. What you are looking forward to watching.

Nymphomaniac -- Lars Von Trier

Anyone seen this? I have not seen this. I am about to see this.

Sipang, given your avatar and your adventurous tastes, seems this one might be tailor-made for you.

I can't remember a LVT film I didn't enjoy -- however, I do worry about what those fussy postmodernists will think (not the film critics, the inbred university kind who seem all but hostile to art) -- how could this not fuel their concerns over LVT's alleged misogyny?

A man named Seligman finds a fainted wounded woman in an alley and he brings her home. She tells him that her name is Joe and that she is nymphomaniac. Joe tells her life and sexual experiences with hundreds of men since she was a young teenager while Seligman tells about his hobbies, such as fly fishing, reading about Fibonacci numbers or listening to organ music.

Anyone seen it? Yea? Nay?

I saw Divergent recently, it was fine but I think it needed more special effects :embar:
It was also interesting to see local places made to look post apocalyptic as the story is set in Chicago.

Nympho is also playing in a theater near me. Should I go see it?

Noob, it's colabear (1 word)
I saw Budapest Hotel too, it was good. I've seen all of Wes Anderson movies since Rushmore. Love his art direction, production, and costumes.

I'm just afraid that if I see Nympho, I will feel super horny afterwards :embar:

I caught most of his films too. Gotta say I only appreciate The Royal Tenenbaums and Bottle Rocket. IMHO, his characters feel less 'real' and enjoyable recently.

Watched an old Korean film yesterday - A Tale of Two Sisters. Towards the end, I realised there are so many recent movies that have reused the same idea... But to state which ones will obviously be writing a spoiler.

I wouldn't worry about that. Most people go in expecting to jerk off, only to leave vomiting. Seriously they had cleaners waiting with mops and sawdust in the theatre through out the duration of the film
