The Classic Navy Blazer - How "Street" Can You Go?

Over at Mr. Porter, they've got a feature today discussing the various ways one can wear a navy blazer. Most of their looks are street style. I'm OK with that and I think their five different examples are, in general, fine.

But ... the navy blazer they use in their feature isn't really a blazer. Because it lacks metal buttons, it's actually a navy blue odd jacket. Nothing wrong with that. But this suggests a question - can one wear a classic navy blazer (say, a double breasted number with gold or brass buttons or, alternatively, a single breasted with silver, gold, or brass buttons) with the more "street" pants and shirts that Mr. Porter is promoting in this feature? I never have but wonder what others think.

I generally wear it with tan/white jeans as I find the blue on blue to be a little jarring.

Your mileage may vary.

I haven't clicked the link but MrPorter is the most bland, boring fashion imaginable, their styling is middle of the road bullshit. To answer your question; gold buttons and DB=no streetwear.

Wow, really surprised when I clicked the link to find that I actually own that very jacket. I didn't even know that Richard James had made it outside of the UK yet!

I can say for certain that the jacket in question is nothing like a blazer. It's a dark blue cotton jacket, butterfly lined with carozo buttons. Heavily suppressed in the waist with a natural shoulder, I use it daily in "street" combinations but switch to a proper blazer for more formal outfits.
