If money is no object (within reasons, do not want B&O), what's the best from technical standpoint, any suggestions?

I suggest that you check the LCD TV Ratings of various brands. Most of the time, it can help when you make a decision. This is what they do when they don't have any idea about certain products.

Good luck.

**** I wish margins were that low over here. TVs are expensive as ****. Same model of Sony Bravia 32" that I want here can be had in the US for just a few hundred bucks (I think like 500 or 600$). Here I will be paying close to $1000.

This might have been said already (sorry, didn't read the whole thread) but I would suspect that quite a few Japanese-brand TVs available in the US are made in China.

However, the Japanese-brand TVs available in Japan are made in Japan.

I'm no expert, but I have a few audio-visual geek friends and they speak far more highly of the made-in-Japan stuff as opposed to the made-in-China stuff.

As an example, Panasonic sells made-in-Japan and made-in-China plasma TVs in Australia.
The made-in-Japan models command a hefty premium of several hundred dollars. Whether they are actually worth it, I don't know.
