I don’t get it either @sterlingindigo, those shoes are one of my favorites and most complimented pair. Mine are an 8.5E though a 9D would work as well if I didn’t already have them. I’ve got a love/hate relationship with eBay as I think their fees are exorbitant. But at least now their process and service offering is so much better. When they first eliminated PayPal it took forever to get paid and I always felt nervous about shipping product before getting paid. But now, I love it. I actually prefer eBay to SF for sales as I don’t get the nickel-and-dime negotiation of $25 on a pair of $800 rare shells that seems to occur too frequently on SF. But ultimately as mentioned, the pool of candidates is so much larger that I can’t imagine those lasting for more than a cycle or two even at $400.

Could it be that the single monk just isn't popular? I mean, I'd be tempted to buy it for $400 if it was my size, but that would just be more of an impulse buy than something I'd actually seek out, haha.

Alden Indy, Natural CXL, 270 welt, 9D, TrueBalance, in great condition. I had the inside of the tongues tacked by a local cobbler as you can see in one of the closeups to prevent the tongue sliding to the side. Nice boot for sure, just not feeling the Natural CXL. Looking to get what I have into them. Trees not included. I'll take care of shipping/tracking and toss in a few boot bags. $300
Thanks!

I’ve quit eBay more times than I can remember since 1998 lol. I get burned and delete them for a few years and then try them again and get burned again. Maybe they changed and I should give them another chance.

Yeah, a monk is not in your first half dozen pair. I’ve always liked the singles though. Ever since Brosnan wore them as Bond. They look especially dashing in tailored charcoal. I’m up to 30 pair dress shoes and have three pair of monks, one black, two 8’s. Time to let one of the 8’s go.

Definitely possible MD. I was leery at first but took the plunge and now love them. Having said that, I’ve seen double-monks that look good on others feet but is too much for my taste.

Certainly not for everyone. But man, unworn, first-quality 8’s south of $300. Still a little surprising.

I find regular monk straps to be unattractive. The way the strap and buckle seem separate and apart from the shoe is off-putting to me personally. I think of them as pilgrim shoes more than something monks would wear.

I also think they are neither fish nor fowl. They aren't dress shoes and they aren't seen as casual as loafers, so people are just not sure what to make of them or when to wear them.

I do have one pair of monks, but they sleeker, particularly the buckle/strap situation. From Edward Green.

FS: Leffot Greenwich Boots - Hunter Green Reverse Chamois
Barrie Last
Size 9D

Bought these second hand - wore them once - been in their box since. Time to move them to someone who’ll get more use out of them.

Asking $375

Apologies @sterlingindigo, strictly a typo on my part. Tangentially related, I just sold my Aberdeen-lasted Cigar Splits on ebay for $799 (didn't realize they were still listed, but I digress). With fees I'll clear around $700. Shoes were worn once, maybe twice and I paid somewhere between $900-$1,000. Three years ago these would have sold for $1,200 easily. C-19/WFH changed everything and the need for many many pairs of dress shoes has dissipated, and I don't think it's coming back. The market for Alden's and all high-end shoes has changed. I don't see it coming back anytime soon and those of us who are sellers have to adjust our expectations.

I figured it was a typo and not a finesse lol but yeah, Covid really sucked all the fun out of the room.
