Stopped for a shine at the airport. These Fifth Avenues were already in decent shape but I like to support the shoe shine stands when I can to help keep them in business. As I was paying the shiner remarked “Good shoes, Allen Edmonds.”

Stopped by the Austin location this week to check out the heritage collection. Despite having the promo materials, they have yet to get a single model. In fact the SA had only seen one model thanks to a customer bringing them in. Seems a little odd even for a smaller store.

A few observations:
Was glad to see the sneaker take-over is declining.
I’m not a zipper boot guy, but the Tompkins (random sole = single season run?) caught my eye as having SMU black shell potential.
The new park and strand “verse” models look more casually balanced with reverse welt. Wish I knew more about that sole. With sneaker exhaustion surely hitting the masses, AE may be on to something here.
Lastly, this hunter green Strandmok was beautiful. Already being cleared out; keep an eye on the dropping price!

I hope sneaker exhaustion is happening. I wore my Fifth Avenues for almost 12 hours yesterday without any discomfort at all. The masses are just under the impression that “dress shoes” aren’t/can’t be comfortable.

The Austin location was my closest "local" store back when I was living in San Antonio. I had one good experience with that store- the rest were not good. I hope they "invest" more in that store. At first they had a few staff members and a "mediocre at best" selection but rarely had more than a pair or two in my size. Then they were randomly closed a few times in a row that I'd attempted to drop by so I gave up. I later learned the store temporarily closed because the SOLE EMPLOYEE (the "manager") had quit. They literally only had one employee on staff for more than six months and then that person quit. I was told corporate had to get another manager from somewhere to go out there for a while so they could "save it."

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
