Wizard of Oz?

I know this is an appreciation thread but I recently perused an Allen edmonds boutique at the south coast plaza, the leathers for the most part feel flimsy and plasticy. Is it just me or has the quality gone down a lot? I remember buying and selling AEs almost 20 years ago and the leather were nice and beefy (for their price range) although never designed very sleek.

Some of them are, yes. I've had a few shoes that were made by AE 20-30 years ago, and usually the uppers are thicker on those pairs. With newer pairs, it's very random. You might get a beefy one, or a very thin one.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
