I had $40 in rewards expiring soon, and AE recently had shoe trees on sale for $20 a pair. I normally wait for the Woodlore bogo sale, but I figured this would be acceptable.

I can finally wear my two trunk show pairs now. I had been holding off on wearing them until I got more shoe trees.

I visited the Costa Mesa new store a few days ago. I did get to see Dan, who has been with AE for a long time. The new store is nice, maybe slightly larger than the previous location. I'm pretty sure that the old location was more expensive because it came with an outdoor window display. Anyway, the Reserve collection is nice. I finally had a chance to hold them in my hands (except for the gator, which was behind glass). The edge detailing and welt is fantastic -- probably the best I've seen from AE. The insoles also feel pretty good, although not exactly poron like most think of it. The poron is subtle, and it is closer to the Independence collection in terms of how the insoles would feel. Dan informed me that each pair is actually hand-stained and that the leather comes in a yellow color. Anyway, I didn't have much interest in them before, but I might keep an eye on them should they ever discount them. I don't know how many more times I'll get to see Dan in the future, but it was nice to see him again.

I was turned off by the poron…good to hear it’s not full blown on those.

Guys - I don't want to muck up this thread so would someone be so kind as to point me in the direction of the AE for sale thread (if it still exists).

Much appreciated.
We want you here!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
