I bought a suit..and because i am a lanky guy i have a slim waist

this is a standard 40 R suit, not a sport or european cut, but i would like to take in the waste as much as possible.

i have a pocket in the way of the side seams...is it possible to have this taken in, in any way?

In Los Angeles I can recommend Paul at Wilshire Tailor, Charles at Charles Tailor (or Tailoring) on Olympic, or Enzo Caruso on Ocean Park in Santa Monica. None of whom, unfortunately, are close to Monrovia. I remember a while back someone spoke highly of a tailor in K-town, which at least would be a bit closer (although only relatively speaking).

what is known as the side seams is slightly to the back where there is no pocket.
thats where the alteration is usually done.
there is also a seam that starts under the arm at the armhole and goes down . through the pocket.
this one tailors do not like to do because of the great amount of time involved.
remember the cost depends on the amount of time involved and thats what you are
paying for.

clam,

someone else on this board mentioned mesa tailor in fountain valley (not far from south coast plaza area). i found a good guy in costa mesa (irvine ave & 17th street near the back bay) called buds custom tailor. i took a suit there for extensive alterations and was happy with the results. same exact thing as you're trying to do -- a boxy suit that i needed to slim down A LOT. i learned theres definitely a limitation to what can be done.

we went through several fittings to get it right which to me seems like the right way to do it. too many places just do the alterations, give it back, and thats that. they were also very honest about what could and couldnt be done properly.

unfortuntaely i went to another place already. bellaz tailoring or something in irvine.

ill try buds next time if this plac doesnt work out.

he charged me $35 for this, because he is fixing the past mistake too. the back is kind of wrinkled now and not very straight/. ill post my findings.

ah yeah thats exactly what happened with a few other suits i've tried to slim significantly. it sort of puckers and folds right above the vent. in the future i'm just going to try and buy suits that are slimmer cut to begin with.

pls let me know how your experience with bellaz. i live in that area too so it would be convenient. i've had 2 jackets slimmed at buds and another there as i speak...err type. expect similar pricing or maybe less. the last jacket i sleeves shortened from the shoulder and waist suppressed for $50. the place is really a dive but they do great work.

try looking for an odd number size - i.e., if you wear a 42R, look for a 41R. It'll be an inch slimmer.

could you post a pic? i would to compare with work i've gotten at buds (i.e. how flat the seams are, whether this is any pucker at the vents, etc)

it wouldnt be a fair comparison since we started out with different suits and different degrees of error needing to be fixed
