I have some driving mocs like those that I wear casually with shorts, or when I go driving.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have heard bad things about Steve Madden quality from other people too. About the Top Siders, I really don't like boat shoes. I think they look good on other people, but they're not for me. I like the BR shoes. Someone mentioned Rockport. What do you think of this Rockport shoe? http://www.zappos.com/product/7422449/color/2545

I'd say stick with those BR shoes or the like in that price range. Also, in response to the last shoe posted, white shoes can be hard to...pull off for many. Out on the night scene, you don't really see white shoes, at least where I'm from (NYC).

The Rockports are fine. Not high quality, but well styled. Unlike the Steve Madden examples,
which are nauseating.

I'm leaning towards the BR shoes that someone posted. You all will probably not like what I just posted b/c they resemble the Steve Madden Novo's.

At the risk of getting a lot of posts from know-it-all's I would say this is a situation where Kenneth Cole shoes would work. BUT I would stay away from Kenneth Cole reaction. I would not buy them. They are cheaply made and fall apart soon. Go with Kenneth Cole New York.

To find them in the price range of the reactions go to Macy's. They seem to always have a few racks of shoes on sale. In these racks they sometimes have some decent Kenneth Cole New York and the prices will be listed as up to 70% off. If you find a shoe you like take it to the bar code scanner and see if it costs less then you think. I got a pair of off-white KCNY loafers to wear without socks last year for like $42. They are decently made and look great for what I got them for. You just have to find a Macy's with a good shoe selection and be willing to walk away if they do not have something you want.

I would not get white for evening wear unless I was on a beach perhaps.

Good luck.

Birdcall,

First, you may be in the wrong forum. Here you're going to get a strong emphasis on classic style. That's why you're getting some much hostility. Your tastes might run more to the streetwear forum.

Assuming you want advice here, the Rockports are the least-hideous of the choices you posted. You can, however, do much better. I'm not a big fan of Allen Edmonds loafers but the are much, much better looking and better made than anything you have suggested so far.

Normally, they run about $300. Luckily for you, they have an e-bay outlet where they sell off discontinued models, odd sizes, etc. If you are patient and flexible, you can find some excellent deals. I don't know what your shoe size is but take a look at this as an example.

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Allen-Edmond...3A3%7C294%3A30

They are always putting up different sizes and different models. They have this one in several different sizes, for example. If you have a particularly wide or narrow foot, you can be almost guaranteed of finding an outstanding bargain.

Before I dropped $100 on something from KC or Steve Madden, I would look around for something like the Allen Edmonds. Even if you end up paying $150 or so, it's probably worth it as the difference in quality and design are very huge. You will be able to wear shoes like these for many years. If you are lucky your Steve Maddens will disintegrate before you realize how truly hideous and embarrasing they are.

Sweet Jesus, make it stop.

When will this toe shape from Arabian Nights fade?

You want to know why Madden and Kenneth Cole quality is so bad? Because they keep leaving off the little bells that go on the end of these monstrosities.

I am ashamed to admit I used to own this POS. It has no shape after 3 wears and your big toe will leave a dent on the top of the shoe. It is a disaster made of horrid leather-like material.

I threw it away after a month.

I will take the advice on the bad quality of Kenneth Cole Reaction.

Though I do like the Drive Home in black by Kenneth Cole New York that FreeDaveBrown posted, the one on the GQ essentials list.
