This is a nice looking coat, but I feel that raglan sleeves is an essential aspect to a trench coat. I dig the Coherence coat in that article more

Coherence does just about all their outerwear right. A classic and roomy coat that drapes beautifully.

I think people who think that the majority of SM clients are gonna spend over 500 bucks on a stock coat, or over 100 on a stock shirt, or over 150 on stock pants, are completely out of touch with reality. I'm not surprised that TM shirts (as awesome and beautiful as they were) were a dud, cause the average consumer isn't a high-end SFer who can tell the difference between all these fine details that 90% of men can't tell.

End of the day, they're making great products at great prices that will satisfy like... 80% of the needs of the average person, and good enough that people that know and understand high end can appreciate it, but people wanting really weird and unique stuff is also the reason that TM shirts sell slow, that Neapolitans sell slow, and that peak lapels sell slow.

Mass market doesn't get understand that ****. I like to experiment with all of SM's unique stuff, but at the end of the day, I, like others, have a limited budget and whatever amount you spend on clothes, you want versatile stuff that's gotta be hardy to last a while.

Like, the double breasted overcoat is gorgeous and I'd love to get it, even at flashsale prices, but like $500 for a coat makes no sense when I just bought an SM coat last year and I wanna make it last.

MTO seems like it'll be a good compromise, or those Group MTOs but I've noticed a lot of people request really high end things that to me, don't make sense for 80% of consumers who don't appreciate the high end touches.

But then again, maybe I'm wrong. SM knows their sales numbers better than I do. I think they've hit the pricing/quality sweet spot for the majority of their products and I like that they keep experimenting every season, but I just read some of these things people request and I just don't get it. Just cause it looks great on your body doesn't mean it'll look great on every guy or that people will notice it.

Anyways, bring on the cigar linen suit six months before anyone needs it!

Yeah unfortunately I figured that one out a bit too late.

Was there a reason for that design choice? There did seem to be an unfinished lining inside, and the patch itself had a lot of room.

I had the same question and Rick showed me why. On the sample they first produced they were pockets and due to the size of the pocket and weight of the fabric the patch would "lean" forward from the jacket and it didn't look clean. Makes more sense when you see it and it sold me on why the production run did not go that route.

We tested TM fabric shirts last year after hearing a lot of requests for them. Big dud for us. Hard to make the jump from $40 - $50/shirt to +$100. TM still sells decently in MTM. We're looking to pick some more up in the future.

damm i missed this lol

The photo you posted is nice, and I'm happy to do without the epaulets as shown on this one, since they tend to get roughed up (and pulled off) by the shoulder strap of the leather bag I carry to work every day.

However, most of the trenches in that article are WAY TOO short imho. The idea of a trench is to keep your suit dry. Which includes your trousers. The miniskirt length trenches sold in recent years look bad (imho) and, more objectively, get your trousers soaked by rain.

@spiermackay Was the site and any purchasing information compromised today? One of my credit cards had an attempt at fraud tonight. I saw on here that the site was down and someone mentioned a virus. I've made quite a few purchases with Spier recently with the compromised card. I'm fairly certain no information was compromised on my end since cyber security on my work and personal computers is fairly robust due to my line of work. Just trying to find the loose end.

No. We don't store any cc info and no secure/SSL info was disturbed. The issue was that there was a redirect on every link. This happened somewhere around 9:30 am this morning. Any database info was the first thing we looked into and both the server company and our developer both said that database info was not touched. This is the first thing we investigated and it looks all clear. More of a giant pain ********** than a security issue. We did lose an entire day of revenue, which is painful.

Can't say I disagree, more length is always welcome.
