So how does this feel compared to the half-canvas jackets?

I've never worn full-canvas

It’s my first suit worsted and I actually think the full canvas helps a lot. I imagine a half canvas worsted is pretty flimsy feeling. The canvas gives the cloth some nice drape.

The balmacaan came. Wow, it is awfully slim. I was already ordering 1 size up for the extra sleeve length but I'm going to have to return this and order 2 sizes up for the chest fit. Fair warning to anyone else thinking of ordering one.

I haven't tried on the balmacaan but with Spier's outerwear that I've tried on where I had a jacket/sportcoat layered underneath, I've preferred two sizes up. One is doable but two is better. Heck I don't think 3 would even look crazy in the overcoat. I partially chalk it up to being a contemporary guy, since the outerwear does not come in slim and contemporary.

Just picked up the fox bro’s brown check. Surprised I don’t hear much love about this jacket, it is incredibly soft, drapes nicely, and versatile with the subtle check.

I also picked up the melange indigo and it might be a nice if not better substitute for the chambray. It’s also incredibly soft. Feels like I’m putting on my favourite old pyjamas.
