@orange fury did you get your trench? and did you go TTS or size up?
I was all set to size up, but the photos of the ulster, to the extent representative of the fit of the trench, have me re-thinking

FWIW I sized down for my trench coat and it fits pretty well - not too trim but not baggy either. I definitely would not recommend sizing up.

Heads up- they just teased the sack jacket over on IG!

Ughhhhh I don't need another navy blazer...

My concern would be wearing it with a jacket and the liner- is there still room for both when you sized down?

I say just send it and get a 6th coat. I’ve been eyeing a Harris tweed overcoat for a hot minute now
The grey herringbone is from 2002 and still looks good. That one probably needs to retire before I get a new coat.
On the other hand, the very nice lightweight Ethomas coat gets exactly two days of use per Year. Here in Switzerland, when you actually need an overcoat, that one is useless, and I regret wearing it on my way back home in evening. It did get some use when I lived in San Francisco.
A thick tweed coat is definitely on my list, but not RTW. I use my coats almost daily in winter and need a good fit.

From IG story. Let’s talk. It has a hook vent as well according to Rick.

I haven't worn mine to actually go out yet, but trying on the coat sans liner (thin sweater + sportcoat + trench coat) felt fine. To be honest I'd say the liner is pretty negligible. It's pretty small and thin - it weighed in at 225g in total. There was a little restriction in mobility at the extreme end (trying to fully cross my arms) , so if that's a concern then I would think your normal jacket size would work.

Never understood the sack jacket.

Let's get rid of darts to make the jacket's pattern look cleaner, then add flaps on top of chunky patch pockets to add more visual mass to the waist. I've seen dartless jackets, and the waist actually ends up looking messier too with no darts.

Hook vent which is even more difficult to fit for most people if they have a big behind.

More options for particular aesthetics is good though, kudos to S&M.

I think much of this has to do with changes in people's size over the last couple of years. More cloths are being sold in a size up than 2019, across the industry. But it would have been better to keep the garments same, like Levi's etc are doing, rather than make things looser. A note reminding people to recheck their dimensions would have helped?

Spier mentioned that they're sizing these specifically for use with tailoring, so in this case it's not vanity sizing

Given people sit a ton now, their hips push forward and their butt goes back causing this issue for people without a big behind too...

Overcoats are always sized to accommodate a jacket or thick sweater underneath, unlike a topcoat. But this year some of these are cut wider, and some items like regular overcoats seem slimmer, making a complete mess for people who thought they know their proper fit and size.
