I’d be interested to know the answer to this too - eyeing up a surge uniform loiter in the sale.interested in the serge uniform bedford fw24
how’s the fabric like? i know its 100% wool but how thick is it?
Thank you!I've got a Maine Guide Jacket in "Uniform Wool Serge" form AW2024 and it's on the lighter end of midweight. I'd say probably too warm for summer (for me anyway... it's stouter than tropical wool, and I run hot anyway) but good for shoulder season wear. Currently it's in the high 30's/low 40's in Portland, and I can wear it layered over an EG hoody or something similarly warm and be ok. I've also worn it under a heavier wool balmacaan type coat. Would not work in Midwest winters, and it's not super windproof either.
i was eyeing the one from TBB. sold out like a day after smhI’d be interested to know the answer to this too - eyeing up a surge uniform loiter in the sale.
would you be able to wear it in the summer or is it very much just a fabric for the colder months?
thanks in advance.
Uniform Wool Serge is a wool twill which has typically been used in dress uniform in the armed services. It's a robust cloth, similar to gabardine with a clear finish. Drapes beautifully and very wrinkle resistant. Unlike covert and cavalry twills, as mentioned, this cloth does not cut the wind sufficiently enough to call it a weather proof cloth. However, on a cool fall day, it will stand the test.
This fabric was first introduced to the collections in and around 2006 in the Bedford model and later became a popular fabric throughout the collection.
My go to when I either want that navy blazer to dress up and down in a casual way and sometimes pairing it with a USN trouser (Sadly Missed Model) of the same fabric for my casual navy suit.
We do have a few sizes available.
Thanks! Hit the jackpot on the EG sizing-roulette with that one 😅@Sondre second fit is great, that jacket suits you really well
I bought my very first Bedford in Uniform Wool Serge in FW 2011 or 12. I fondly remember my local tailor (an Asian woman) pointing out the interior fabric stamp and telling me about how all the school and military uniforms in her native country used Wool Serge. She was surprised to see the fabric stamp after many years.Uniform Wool Serge is a wool twill which has typically been used in dress uniform in the armed services. Wouldn't be surprised at all. Paris fashion week starts tomorrow, right? Maybe FW25 is their final season.😞 if true-I know there’s some previous discussion on this topic but this is another nail
