I do agree it would be risky for EG to pivot away from Made In NYC, as suggested price drop to decent stuff made in China or elsewhere won't be that much. Especially as the move would be to increase profits so its just the value for the consumer that would continue to drop.

I genuinely believe the cycle for EG as a quality, niche menswear brand has run its course. I think if one looks hard enough you can find a similar aesthetic elsewhere which offers more value and supports more of the artisanal spirit. Of course as EG has saturated the market (relatively speaking) you can also just peruse the deep secondary markets for some good finds.

In most items I still feel like EG hits a pretty good price zone when you boil it down to construction, materials, and design.

Has it really gotten worse? I personally just have a full closet, see too much new **** 24/7 (so nothing feels fresh) and have evolving priorities to be getting multiple EG pieces a season. If that wasn’t the case, I’d be crushing this latest fall season or wildly in debt on some Lemaire and Evan Kinori.

I'm curious about which brands you like that offer a similar aesthetic.
A. Preese, Kaptain Sunshine are pretty good, but what they offer are much "cleaner" look that's popular in Japan right now (きれいめカジュアル), all their products are made in japan with high quality fabric

Kaptain Sunshine is great. It's a really clean aesthetic, which is the direction that the market is heading in. Their price point is on par, if not slightly higher than EG. Aesthetically I'm not really seeing the EG comparison though.
I was expecting to see the usual suspects- orslow, beams+, battenwear, monitaly ect adjacent brands. Though imo those are more akin to workaday in terms of design ethos.

In terms of aesthetics, are you comparing to old eg or the newer eg?

How about Italian brand 1st-pattern, it looks like a "normie" version of EG

They don't really "remake" clothing in a new way like EG

Cross post from the EG Trading Thread:

Super long shot but this Navy Loiter in wool/cotton flannel from FW18 is one of my favorites. Loiter fit big, so this L wears like an XL. I'm a Large nowadays so I'm looking for a Medium/Dark Navy in this wool/cotton blend if anyone has one.

I found a potential replacement in heavy wool flannel but the retailer is unknown to me and it's listed at $100 for a full size run. This is clearly too good to be true. I don't suppose anyone's ordered from these guys before?

That store has the hallmarks of being a scam store. Do not visit it. Norse does have ecom via norsestore, not that suspicious site.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
