same thing happened to me, it's quite nice but a bit pointless if you have better things already

damn i got home and tried on my vintage cdg coat and now this uniqlo one feels redundant and inferior :(

Yeah I tried on the mods coat, the Chesterfield and the blocktech. They were all pretty nice, but in the end they seemed like worse versions of things I already had, or things I was likely to buy elsewhere.

^ That seems true of Uniqlo or any other FF/mall brand, not? For me, buying expensive rainwear always feels like a waste of money as it rains so infrequently here, especially if it's casual clothing and not an actual shell.

I do buy a lot of basics there, and I have a blocktech packable parka I use for hiking, but the stuff that looks like full length outerwear is the stuff I was referring to.

Definitely - I think that if I were less inclined to spend absurd amounts of money on clothing, I would be very happy shopping at Uniqlo.

It's the U Blocktech trench/Chester thing I'm referring to, though - doesn't really make sense for me to buy a 'nice' version. That said, I think I will buy one of the seamless down coats once it goes on deep sale. That something I'm not inclined to spend real money on.

Can anyone tell me how lightweight is the Uniqlo U coat? Is it suitable for LA winter? 40-60F or 10-25C ish. Thanks .

I should partly take that back. I did really like the mods coat, but the hood was so oversized that it blocked by vision when it was up and I couldn't see an easy way of adjusting it to make it stay up a little higher. I liked the idea of a waterproof fishtail parka and the silhouette was great, but I didn't see the point in a hooded rain jacket with an unusable hood.

Is that thing vented ? Almost bought the raincoat thingy but the weird side vents are putting me off

No vents. And it doesnt really rain here , certainly not as much as people assume. By annual mm precipitation it's less than, for example, Rome or nyc (though much of that is in the form of snow)

Please help me choose my self-present for Christmas.

Option 1: Falcon Garments jacket. I was thinking a whiskey calf suede one. My main candidate would be a Collared Moto, like this but in suede:

Perhaps a more obvious choice would be a T1 or T3 (below). I like the idea of buttons on a suede jacket but not a fan of chest pockets.

Pros of a Falcon jacket: I’ve got the measurements nailed down and I think it’d look nice. Cons: not sure it’s the jacket I want, it’s a relatively recent interest.

Option 2: Crockett & Jones Skye 2 in brown shell.

Pros: I 100% know I want them and I’m pretty sure I’ll end up having a pair. Cons: I have a fairly similar C&J pair already, the Islays.

Option 3: KKA leather jacket. I’ve always been a fan of how this jacket looks in pics. It’s unlined.

Pros: nearly 1/3 of the price of the other two options. Cons: I’m 8 cms taller and 7 kgs heavier than the seller, so might be too small (although it seems a size 3 is roughly a 48, my size). Also the colour is green and whereas I’m ok with how it looks in the pics I’m not sure I would like it if it’s anymore greener IRL. Also, the fact that’s unlined and 2nd hand puts me off (sweat).
