Not really feeling that one.

RRL and American Trench have some interesting Southwestern styled jackets this season though. I think that design looks better when the pattern is larger.

Lucchese Jaydens. Adding to my two suede pairs. Chocolate or light brown

[EDIT]: Decided on chocolate. Better for occasional dressier wear.

Leather is mediocre.

Luccheses are the only side zips whose shapes I've liked. It's them or nothing for me.

I guess maybe I'm better with nothing.

EDIT: Real-world shot of the similar-to-chocolate dark brown, stolen from a secondhand market post. Looks better than the photos. From my recollection with the Black Cherry pair, Lucchese leather is exactly what you'd expect based on their suedes - not a selling point, not atrocious, but definitely below what you'd expect on a $800 boot.

I want side zips so I don't have to wear dress shoes ever again. I'm in LA and work with startups and fitness companies, so I can get away with it. My two current Lucchese fit great, look great, and I love wearing em. The Jonah's shape is pretty much perfect in my eyes. But if the leather is bad enough that I should look to another brand, I'll do that, as long as I can find something similar.

And unfortunately, that can't be Viberg. Viberg's side zips are the only other side zips I've really loved from a looks perspective, but they absolutely destroy my feet...the damn 2050 last is just too narrow at the toes.

Or just give way fewer ***** about the whole situation and get some Tecovas.

So on the Jayden models I originally mentioned, Lucchese slaps on a lug sole. Which is convenient, since I get my Lucchs topy-ed (saves me $30 and two trips to the cobbler) but obviously not a deciding factor. Boots are otherwise identical.

The Bison one is a Jonah. Lucchese just (~8 weeks ago) started selling a couple Bison Jonahs directly through their site. The dark brown calf in the Grailed pic is a Jonah. The two I put up before are Jaydens, the lug sole version.

I think the cigar bison will be sufficient for what I'm looking for. It's a nice color, though it's probably one of those colors that sorta goes with everything but goes perfectly with nothing. But I'm OK with that.

It's kinda funny...Lucchese gives 2 pics of the dark brown calf that make it look wildly different. The first one looks pretty solid! The second one, not so much.

But I've had one of their calf boots before. Sold it, regretted it. This is what the black cherry looks like in real life:

It's actually pretty nice stuff. Their pictures just suck.

By the way, I love that American Trench jacket (especially for the price) @dieworkwear . And of course AT makes great stuff. ONLY part I don't love is the piping on the edges. But I'm sure that would be much less of an issue once it's no longer pristine.

Fits very large nowadays. I didn't like it that a much.

Measurements seem 1 size larger than the ones I own (mine are L).

Seems about right. Anyway, compared to, say, BBJ patchwork, I thought the EG patchwork felt rather "mass produced", boring and generic tbh. Ymmv of course.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
