This is the original 'Windsor' (with the cricket club medallion) which hasn't been in production since the 1980s. Tony Gaziano (when he worked for EG) did run a special edition for the members of the London Lounge. As the punches for the original perforations have been lost, they were substituted with stock designs.

Here is member 'PhiloVance' (who must be the world's leading authority on the 'Windsors') discussing the design features.

One of my favorite EGs. I posted a picture of those a while back here. Well loved for sure:

I wish they would bring it back. Great looking country shoe.

You might also like this. I believe this is also the Windsor.

BTW: As you can see, this shoe also comes with a new shoe part called a thistle. :slayer:

Closed channel stitching is the LEAST of one's concerns. It's a "finishing touch". Personally, at that price point, I'd rather the maker spent more money on the UPPERS than the sole treatment. Also, are you sure they're closed channel rather than glued on soles?

Definitely closed-channel. They don't do glue job. Admittedly, the upper leather is a little thin but it shines well and supple, but not poopy leather quality. I take it as you haven't had a close inspection of their shoes.:)

but clunky as hell, though.

Yes. I am not the biggest Alden fan--actually I sold all but one pair (six in all and some barely worn) at the begining of the year. I do like shell, however.

nothing wrong with it for sure. i just don't like big framed shoes and massive heel blocks either from alden or any other maker with a lack of aesthetics.

Shine is praise worthy. Alden get way too much love on this board but for some reason they seem to make people happy. Personally I do not understand the aesthetic - though I have tried.
