He did bring a very nice brown cashmere glen plaid… I picked that one for a jacket.😈
Out of curiosity, how does it compare to the LL Agnelli lambswool? IMG_1016.jpeg IMG_1017.jpeg

I’ve never see the Agnelli lambswool in person, and the jacket is still being made, so I’m not sure. But the pattern is very similar - a glen plaid that could never be mistaken for suiting fabric, but isn’t very loud.
My initial thought was it was very similar, but I didn’t have them side by side to compare to each other. If I recall correctly, kotaro charges extras for cashmere.

It’s one of the reasons I’m thinking of letting go of the agnelli fabric.

Think 2x now. He was last here in October and planning to come back in April (but April is not confirmed).

gotcha, so for a first commission, is it close to 2 years for delivery? Was on the list last year, but passed on an appointment, now want to get something made up and am kicking myself now that the books are closed until 2026

contemplating looking into another option if it would wind up being a late 2028 delivery in that case...

qemal maybe? I don’t really there there are comparable traveling options to kotaro right now. (Assuming US.)

A year ago, I would’ve suggested satoki kawai (obviously a different style) but a similar level of workmanship and quality.

You could play the Neapolitan roulette game with traveling tailors. Or it’s a good excuse to travel to Italy.

Yea, that was the other consideration. This is for a project in 2024 or 2025, so not really in a rush but just feeling out options.

I think I've come to the determination that Neapolitan tailoring isn't for me (I have narrow, rounded shoulders). With young kids, a trip to Italy is a no go for at least the next 10 years

With narrow round shoulders, perhaps English tailoring would be better. But I’m not sure who the options are for English. Milanese tailoring might be better too.

Which Neapolitan did you try? Seems like a more classic shoulder, con rollino and some extension would suit that build description. But some obviously do that better than others. Pirozzi comes to mind as someone who does an extended Neapolitan shoulder well. Or as @jonathanS mentioned English or Milanese. IIRC Corcos doesn’t do much extension.

Kotaro, I’d describe as having an extended shoulder. More so than Neapolitan.

Presently, there are no Milanese tailors traveling to nyc besides satoki kawai. I have been trying to convince my other Milanese tailor to come but he’s hesitant to come without orders.

English tailoring isn’t my aesthetic, so I’m no help. I think Steven Hitchcock is well recommended (and a nice guy).

If you only tried Solito and Dalcuore, yea Kotaro will have more extension lol.
Zizolfi has just as much extension as Kotaro, and with a stronger shoulder.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
