it seems you are the one who doesn't know about computers, i use my 13" Unibody MacBook as my only computer and it works fine. 15" is the limit for laptops for me if you want to actually take it anywhere, though. loads of people use well-specced laptops as their primary machines. i could never get by with a netbook, losing 3 inches of screen space and a few pounds does not make it any more portable for me.

that is not what a netbook is.... Just because companies market there last years tech as a netbook doesn't make it one. never said you could not use a laptop as a primary computer... however to do that one must not play games or use CPU intensive programs such as PS or solid works. In fact if you werent using it for CPU intensive programs youd be using it like a netbook. A netbook is a laptop that cant handle CPU incentive programs and can only handle such things as extremely minimal gaming, very limited 3d imaging software, word docs, internet browsing, etc. That just described almost every lap top in existence atm.

i use photoshop for work all the time, along with the entirety of ms office, and imovie, and a bunch of other apps all simultaneously. i also edit video for work on it. sorry to break it to you! you can do a lot with 2GHz C2D and 4GB RAM, and stuff is only getting better

i know what a netbook is, to suggest that it is the only useful form of notebook computer is absurd

You really have no clue what you are saying here... Laptops these days can be had with the majority of the performance of a desktop for a good price. The advantage of having one machine with all your data on it that you can take with you as you need it is huge. I have a 13 inch Macbook and it's literally the best of both worlds for me. Small and fairly light for taking with me places, but I am able to attach a large LCD screen at home for that "desktop" experience when I want to.

Unless you are a graphic design professional or hardcore gamer then a laptop for your main machine can make a lot of sense.

yes, being able to take my computer to work, do my work, then take it home with me and continue doing whatever i want with access to all of the same data is definitely a huge disadvantage for me

I use a few SUN workstations, and besides that, have a PowerMac, an IMac, 2 MAC Minis, as well as this Compaq I'm using right now. This is a stupid discussion. If you need portability, a laptop is the way to go. I'll be getting a netbook so that we can cover the January tradeshows even if there is no Wifi available. On the other hand, I regularly work with data files that that up to 5, 10 Gigs, and the workstations or PowerMac are the way to go.

FWIW, I hate computer games (always have), and think that they are a waste of time/breath/space.

+1 My daily computer is a dual-quad HP w/32GB Ram, and I stripe 20GB-80GB single files to disk commonly. Apart from that I have a laptop for general portable use, and a netbook for class. When I'm home, I plug them into my network and crosssynch all the common files I need to all systems to stay current (not the big files though, they never need to be common). For those guys running around with their life on their laptops, I hope you have some data security protocols in place. Sensitive docs on my laptop (even my email, I don't want some random crook reading my mail and getting my friends' names and addresses and personal info) are on a True Crypt partition. ~ H

Crisis averted, I actually got the 16" after all, they had thought that the mid-size was the "Medium". I won't even get into how ridiculous it is to call a 17" laptop "overkill" especially with the new 16:9 format. It might be overkill for all of you facebook+msn+pretty colours+etc. guys, but certainly not for people who know what to do with it.

I've been seriously considering one of these bags. First bag I've seriously considered that wasn't specifically designed for a woman.

I've had mine for years now, so I'll try to get around to it. I accidentally scratched it on a wall while walking so it looks more beat-up than usual, but haven't cared enough to do anything about it. I like trashing the bag basically. If I polish it, it'll look brand new again. Would take some serious effort to actually damage this thing.

i've had mine for about 2 years now. i believe this was their earliest version: made in Mexico, large, light tobacco brown and suede lining. i took a look at the new slim briefcase and the difference in the finishing touches is extremely evident. it would appear moving their production to the States really refined their product.

i carried it daily for an entire semester during college but then switched back to a regular back pack. i'm 5'11" @ 188 lbs but carrying a laptop with 2 or 3 textbooks was killer. eventually just used it for work where all i tote around is laptop and paperwork.

aside from using Lexol during summer to prevent it from drying out i really haven't done all that much to it. the leather really puts everything else i've seen to shame.

These look great, thanks for posting. The bag looks like something I could really wear in and abuse, which is something I can't say about the other, more delicate bags that I do have. Even though I do tend to wear my stuff VERY hard, I'm always cautious with the ones that I have. This bag looks like something I'd be very happy to grow old with.
