I got a strange situation, which seems to be unusual. I always thought of myself as a UK11 size shoe, so when I first ordered a pair of 8111s online, I got a UK 10. After a struggle, I realised that they were too small and sold and them and ordered some UK10.5s. I wore these for about 6 months and they were uncomfortable too, so I sold those too and ordered some UK11s. I've been wearing these for a year and was never happy with the way that my little toe touched the end. Also there was little wiggle room and I felt that they looked too small on me for my height (I'm just under 2 metres).

Anyway, I am now in possession of my 4th pair of Iron Rangers and I'm much happier with the feel of the UK 12. So basically, I feel that I have actually sized up with these. I'm not sure why my experience of the sizing of Iron Rangers is so different to everyone else's!

The pair I had been wearing for the last year (oxblood mesas) softened, but never really 'gave', so I'm not too concerned about the leather on this latest pair getting too loose.

I also feel that a boot should be in proportion to your height. It just looks better to have big shoes when you're tall. I probably have about an inch of room in the toe box. This feels better to me though than much less than an inch.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Not intentionally, but the color gets lighter with use and the wet conditions probably didn't help either. Still keeps my feet dry though:)

In my opinion, the vibram isn't as comfortable as the cork sole. I also believe that the amber colour ages better than the oxblood. My oxbloods have gone a very dark colour and there is little in the way of highlight on them.

Hey guys.

I've just bought my first pair of Iron Rangers and I'm really happy with them, except I've noticed one thing, and I'm not sure if this will be a problem.

When laying on a flat surface the right boot has a bit of a wobble. There's nothing aesthetically, but I'm wondering if this will hurt my foot/knee/hip when walking. Here's a gif of the problem.

I also can't get the tongue to lay flat, it sort of scrunches up behind the laces in the boot, to the point where I don't think it'll patina nicely. Any suggestions on how to get it laying flat?

Any input appreciated.

Congratulations on your first Iron Ranger!! The first two weeks can be painful. its gonna hurt your ankles and feet. but once you break them in, they gonna get soft and fit perfectly. little tips. Since Iron Rangers are thick and heavy, you might add a pair of comfort insole if you are planning to wear them as a go-anywhere boots. For examples, Dr. Scholls insole is a great choice and its only $10

Does the wobbly boot feel okay when you're wearing it?

The gussted tongue will not sit flat. It will develop it's own character as you wear it.

Yeah it feels okay. Someone said it's a common problem and if I gave the boot a twist it would sort itself out, which it did.

Thanks, what I mean by sit flat is that I tie them quite tight and it's all scrunched and crumpled under the laces, will it still look like the rest of the imagines in here, with the laces marking across the tongue?

It looks like it is just a little high spot on the inside front of the heel. A little walking use should wear it down easily.
s the leather breaks in, the tongue should lie flatter. A little conditioner of your choice could probably speed it up.

Every time I wash the Brooks Brothers Iron Rangers, after they dry, they look totally different than before. I think it has to do with the washing removing oil from the "oiled leather" that these are made with. I've washed them every three months since initially over treating them with oil when I first got them about a year ago ... which totally ruined the color. After this last wash, they are much lighter and much more like they were when I bought them. It's funny because one boot is markedly darker than the other ... in fact, from every side, each boot looks totally different. There's all sorts of marks and dark areas on one that aren't present on the other. I personally love this though it might rub some folks the wrong way. Then again, I sometimes wear two totally different socks on each foot and so I may be abnormal in this aesthetic regard ... LOL ...

...

Not going to put any 3rd party oils/treatments on these again for a long time ... love the highlights ...

I just scrub them really good with saddle soap and a stiff brush. I over treated them with oil when first purchasing and they are finally back to about the color they were when I bought them. These are the Brooks Brothers special Iron Rangers but I think it's basically the same leather they use on the Coppers ...

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
