I figured you'd be able to come up with an allegory comparing my trauma to the experience of a talking wombat and a singing wallaby, which is why I smartly said "few things," rather than "nothing.

Btw I think it was this thread we were having travel chat to awful places, just cancelled my trip to Myanmar (not saying Myanmar is an awful place) Everything is expensive as hell over the New Years and there's no way to do things without money going to the government. I'd love to see Bagan but I'll wait until the government gets their act together. Not somewhere I wanna spend two weeks at the moment. So going to Thailand, boring choice but whatever, been there four times and never been out of the central region, anyone there over New Years?

Heading to Chiang Mai and the north from the 26th - 1st so some of the places are definitely on the list, you have any super recs for the couple days we'll be up there? I heard Chiang Mai itself will be pretty bumping on New Year's eve (this will be eight New Years in a row all in different countries... damn). Flying down to Phuket early on the 1st and gonna immediately get out of there and head to Phi Phi for scuba diving for two nights and then onto either Railay or Lanta for two more for some relaxing before flying Krabi back to BKK then home. I made these plans and booked hotels and flights last night while drunk and angry at every single domestic airline in Myanmar for giving me the super-runaround on whether or not my tickets were booked (they weren't and now never will be!!). Kinda sad because I really wanted to see Bagan and Myanmar, I have a cool friend from there who posts wacky stuff on Facebook all the time and the country looks like a blast

There are lots of different ways to suffer in this world, sadly. Some people definitely get caught up in the "oppression olympics," but I find the wholesale disregard of these concepts and their origins to be disconcerting at best. Rarely has anyone willing to joyfully trivialize the suffering of others been on the right side of history.

The problem with terms like cisgender is that they are a trap for people who aren't interested in, or up to speed on, the latest feminist jargon so that they can be accused of prejudice, even though they have no prejudiced bone in their body. To wrongly accuse people of joyfully trivializing suffering surely isn't helping the cause of transgendered people.
