Just my opinion, but I think if you have to ask questions like that, you shouldn't wear a suit.

If you like tailored clothing, how about sport coats?

So I've been thinking about suits lately and what kind of suits are appropriate for someone in their twenties. I mean what sort of suit would be good to wear if you don't want to look like someone who has to wear a suit for work or who doesn't know anything about tailoring...
...Sometimes I think the 'ivy' aesthetic might work for me because it's less inconspicuous but there's a certain amount of attention to detail involved. then another part of me just thinks of it as too costumey, like there are too many affectations with the tie bar etc.

Do you guys have any other ideas?

Just wear whatever kind of suit you like and feel good in. If you're feeling self-conscious about the suit you're wearing, that's going to project. If you feel confident in the suit you're wearing, that will project as well. Pick a suit you like, get it tailored the way you want, and wear it the way you want to.

Just saw a dude wearing a Burberry Brit trench inside out walking down the street. At least roll with mainline.

I mean what sort of suit would be good to wear if you don't want to look like someone who has to wear a suit for work or who doesn't know anything about tailoring. Because in my mind it seems easier for older guys, actually it seems more easier the older you get because you can sort of go all out and it'll work because it translates to that 'old man style' look, but obviously doing that in your twenties just looks like overkill.

Sometimes I think the 'ivy' aesthetic might work for me because it's less inconspicuous but there's a certain amount of attention to detail involved. then another part of me just thinks of it as too costumey, like there are too many affectations with the tie bar etc.

Dries. Lots of Dries. Every time I see Dries stuff in person, I ask myself why I don't own more. (Oh wait, $$). Also, Ann D has a cool T shirt that I want... but not for $400.

Dries is god

Yolo, you can look for suits with tiny details that show it's not a cm type suit. Ex, cdg/yohji and their quirkiness. Yes, it's a little peacocky but it may set it it apart and make you feel more comforyable.
The cut if the suit will also help distinguish you from 'old man status'.
