We have some posters from Nigeria, including the incomparable Ivwri, so they obviously have plenty of stylish folks over there.

The whole sapeur sub culture is a pretty good example of that. Also Lagos has one of the fastest growing middle classes in the world and the city as a whole is growing like crazy.

Does anyone else ever feel inclined to start dressing in as terrible taste as possible? I'm not talking about slovenly dadwear or anything, but like...completely, intentionally ridiculous and atrocious outfit combinations? I can't even think of an example. But ****-you clothing, and not in the instagrammy peacock way. Actual bullshit, you know?

I went to a casual after-wedding brunch with a friend of mine over the summer, and she declared that she first had to change out of her athletic wear. That meant putting on an incredible yellow-and-pink plaid, two-piece ribbon-tied top and matching shorts that was reminiscent of a bo-peep themed romper, along with cowboy boots and a giant sun hat and bug-eyed glasses. It was ******* marvelous. Maybe I should try to be like Ralph Lauren and wear purple velvet smoking jackets with bolo ties, boot-cut jeans and cowboy boots.

Isn't this still peacocking, albeit less in the IG-ish sense and more in the PUA sense? I want to say there was a web site or sub-reddit or something aimed at younger guys who would dress in super-ostentatious outfits, not in the Pitti sense, but intentionally clashing or going way overboard just to stand out. I think someone brought it up in RFT ages ago.

I think maybe the David Hockney style might be in the realm of what you're talking about.

I picked up this sailboat sweater based on a picture of Hockney that I can't find now.

Except sapeurs come from Congo-Brazzaville (and are also very much present in Congo-Kinshasa) and are not a thing in the Anglo-Saxon Nigeria. That'd be like ascribing Italian social mores to Scandis or something of the sort.

Nigerians have this though:

So what you are saying is that style and culture in 2016 can't migrate from one country to another and especially not dandyism, which is quintessentially british.
