At your age my target was 45. Things bounced my way and I had the opportunity at 33. I was so excited. And it was really awesome at first. And then I had enough.

I think that with very few exceptions, those that have the opportunity to retire very early are not temperamentally fit to do so.

Within my personal and professional circles, I have found that to be true without exception.

Frankly, I can only hang out so much, and there is only so much to eat, drink, and buy. If I retired early (like, say, before I'm 65, maybe 70), I'd be left with one of two choices:
1) Go insane.
2) Make goals for myself and become like, the first 50 year old to climb Mt Everest using only his hands, or first 60 year old to follow the exact path taken by Forrest Gump across America, or something that would just be another form of mania.

I wouldn’t ever get tired of bumming around a beach...all expenses paid of course. I always laugh at the notion of you NEED something to do....no just give me the view..oh and of course the palm tree in my shower. Isn’t that what we all work for anyways?

Okay, I'll bite. Why is there a palm tree in the shower?

A few years ago (the last time I actually traveled) I was on Mykonos in Greece and forced my friend to stay a night at this resort hotel. There wasn't a palm tree in the room but it was overlooking the Aegean and the shower it did have was comparable to this:

Only this one had frosted glass for about 5 feet of it.

My friend and I are both over 6 feet.

So, every time one of us showered while the other tried to read or watch TV from the bed, we would be staring at each other over the frosted glass.

A friend of mine just retired at 40, and he basically just works on a massive to do list around his house. Sounds incredibly boring.

I enjoy my job (prof of natural history) so much that I can’t wait to retire so I can do it for free in beautiful places.

If your idea of retiring means doing nothing productive then of course you'll find it boring.

It's about having freedom to be productive in ways and amounts that maximise your happiness and joy.

i wouldnt mind not working. growing a garden, walking dogs, and having 2-3 hobbies i'd love to put more time into would keep me going for at least five years, if not forever

So if I wear boots with 2+ inch heels I am taller. By about 2 inches I'd say. Interesting.
