When he’s posting pictures of his fits, I’ve never seen him wear statement pieces. He seems to be all about combining stuff like this in interesting ways and just really wearing his clothes. It looks to me the collection is attempting the same thing.

The logo is surprisingly awful though. Like wow.

My problem with the collection is that it is all super generic and there isn’t anything that looks interesting or different, at least not notably so. There aren’t a couple wow pieces to at least get excited about. Maybe the “bespoke suit” is the best example? The collection is screaming for a really great coat or a statement sweater or something. I dunno. Something cool.

I really like him; he seems like a super cool guy and a great collaborator. I was excited to see what he was gonna do without the guardrails of designing inside a mainstream mall brand, but to me it just looks like he decided to make more of the same and add a bad logo.

Maybe... There's something funny to me about offering a $4000 bespoke suit, touting its features, seventies influences yada yada and styling it down in the most unremarkable e-thriftstore fashion that doesn't highlight any of it. Whole thing feels schizophrenic

Do shaggy knits eventually just become pilled knits? I'm thinking about shaggy dog or mohair sweaters.

does shagging reds make you redpilled and shagging blues make you bluepilled....???

Anyone have advice on this? I’m considering one of these and wander joints but not if it is likely to turn into a pilled mess.

The Todd Snyder oxford is priced absurdly too (and also has a laughably dinky collar) but at least it has some claim of using a slightly unusual fabric. I don't know what Aaron Levine is using to justify his shirts at the price they're at. And comparing to RRL is silly; RRL has crazy handwork going into their distressing and washes. Aaron Levine is offering nothing comparable in his totally bland designs. The existence of similar influencer menswear brands like Ghaia Cashmere charging similarly bonkers prices is not an excuse. 18 East is a small craft brand (emphasis on craft, god damn) that has ridiculous handwork going into their textiles and is even cheaper than comparable PRL pieces at times; why isn't that the benchmark for all these small indie brands with no wholesale markup?

OCBDs are a weird market where no one really seems to be getting all the details right. Wythe is priced very reasonably and has a good cut, but their fabric is seriously lacking. Drakes is also stupid overpriced like AL and their fabrics, cuts and build quality are all nothing special. As far as the Japanese brands go, the only one I really respect is RMC's BB repro, but the cut isn't faithful to the original (higher armholes for small Asian frames like mine).
I mentioned Mercer all the way back because brands like AL and Drakes aiming at aspirational disposable income menswear bro pricing for a ready-made shirt make their boomer operation look like a ******* steal, for less than either it's MTO to your exact collar and sleeve size with your choice of color in their fabric which is great, and you can take inches off their big cuts if you're still living in 2016 #menswear and desire skintight fits. I'd take that over trendy influencer brands trying to pad their MSRP with their social media clout anyday.

By RMC BB repro do you mean this:

Yep, that's the one. A lot cheaper in Japan.

It's 2018, and time for a new Random Fashion thread.

It's not so much a reset as a continuation of our (the Styleforum community's) rambling discussion that ended off with Dicken's quotes (Thanks @ManofKent ), new glasses to replace those broken in New Year's Eve fights, Kapital Blanket Ring Jackets, @g transistor 's Kafka-esque feet:

and discussions on working at Matches Fashion (if you do, I expect a nice, hefty discount and an affiliate vendor account here - they would be awesome) which may or may not be located in a building called "The Shart".

In short, this thread will be the continuation of a long tradition of what makes Styleforum great - our community of men's clothing nerds at the neighborhood pub, posting back and forth about whatever random fashion thought falls out of your brain.

To anyone new, don't be intimidated. Join in the conversation. We don't bite (much).

Cheers,

Fok.

It’s not uncommon for brands to sell off price online. Not all of course, but if we buy online and it doesn’t fit, the hassle in returning is worth the risk for the second party selling online. It’s always best to shop and fit at a brick and mortar.

Lately, I’ve been into (mostly Japanese) urban outdoor wear for lack of a better term. It’s not quite tech ninja, maybe a little friendlier. Here’s my list:

and wander
Nike ACG
Goldwin
Snow Peak (but most of it is too short on me)
ROA

Any other suggestions?
