Are we sure that's not a Restoration Hardware store?

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but since the topic of proxies was brought up... has anyone ever used or could recommend any Chinese proxy service? Specifically China -> US

I find this thread both fascinating and tragic.

I'm definitely of the Nakagawa opinion. We need to K-pop-troll the **** out of whatever norm item they try to use as a rallying symbol. They don't get to appropriate Hawaiian shirts, or anything to be fair - **** them. It would be too easy for assholes to just take something from mainstream culture and taint it, ruin it for everyone else. It's giving them too much importance to tip-toe around what they claim as theirs. Just negate that claim entirely.

I think they're still OK as long as you're not marching around at night with them. Don't let them

I grew up with the "OK" hand symbol being used for just that. They have already taken that and there is no turning back.

If thousands of tiktokers and young people everywhere start using it, they'll drown that ascribed meaning in an ocean of meaningless ? in a matter of weeks - this is how we claim back everyday symbols like that. If we stay silent and accept it, they win. I want a million march for BLM with everyone in hawaiian shirts doing ? to claim that **** back from a small minority of assholes. or maybe that's giving them too much importance...?

Man, I totally hear you, but I also have the thought that it may just feed into the egos of these people and give them too much attention. But I dunno.

A few weeks ago, I bought a red trucker hat that I really liked, but I couldn’t get over the MAGA hat association and I couldn’t bring myself to wear it. I hated that. Plus, I’m 6’3”, so most people wouldn’t see that it doesn’t have ‘MAGA’ printed on the front, so that made me even more self conscious.

Yeah a red cap is tough.

But history of youth and subcultures is filled with instances of combating appropriation by turning it on its head. Red skins and trad punk skinheads using the haircuts and Doc Martens of neo-nazi skinheads, for example. I'm no expert on that stuff but our current society is particularly well equipped to mass-spam symbols or hashtags when want to. For a while it was only 4chan and dbags doing it, now we're starting to see counter-movements like the kpop fans and tiktokers drowning out whitelivesmatter hashtags on social media and spamming the Tulsa rally ticket sales
