Is it normal to have the lacing through the vamp on the Gilman dig into the top of your feet? And painfully so initially?

Never owned a pair of camp mocs. But the more I think about it, the more strange I find that lacing design. The vamp and instep is supposed to be snug in order to prevent heel slip right? But who am I to argue, these have been worn for generations!

Hoping it becomes less of an issue with break in. Or perhaps I have the sizing wrong.

For those of you who have lined Rancourt boots: how waterproof are they? Considering getting the Harrison for fall/winter (I live in MA). I have multiple pairs of unlined Rancourts which are not at all waterproof - probably a mix of moc toe construction and being unlined.

been quite a while since I looked, but Rancourt no longer has the custom configurations online? Can you still reach out to CS for one?
Getting an E/EE is tough out of their ready made collections!

They did a custom order for me in 2023. Was a little expensive, but I am very happy with what they made for me. They fit great, look great, comfortable.

Newest Rancourts delivered today. First foray into Natural Essex and they are beyond my expectations

. When I opened the box the scent of fresh new leather just hit me like a blast of peaty Islay scotch. With this glove like leather and RLH sole, the comfort is off the charts and seriously feels like a ninja in the forest. Also first time going as wide as EE and makes me regret not going this width in previous makeups (except my shell pinch penny in E which fits perfectly even though the 114 last is supposed to be more narrow). Cheers, my fellow Rancourt enthusiasts.

I understand the natural Essex will patina like there's no tomorrow. They look great and they will only improve with age! It would be great if you could post them again in about six months to let us see how they age.

I can't see the Harrisons being super waterproof. To your point, moc toe construction so there's holes on the toes already, and I think the construction in general is a Blake stitch, which tends to be less water-resistant in general. If you want a pair of water-resistant moc toes I think you might be barking up the wrong tree, but there's a lot to recommend the Harrisons beyond just weather-resistance.

Interesting point, never thought about it but plain toe boots do make more sense for foul weather.

I have a pair of Alden Indy’s that I’ve worn in snowy weather and my feet were always dry. I did treat the uppers with Quoddy’s waterproofing product so that could have saturated the stitches and made them more water resistant? Just an idea it you want to wear moc toes in wet weather.

Looking for sizing advice on the unlined shell pinch penny loafers.

I'm a 9D in the Classic Ranger Moc and also the Baxter boot (unlined shell). I guess it's safe to go with the same size for these loafers?

Also, how to they fit compared to the LHS shell?

Yes, same size. The pinch penny fits like other Rancourt shoes and boots.
The two Rancourt models which fit larger than others are the Beefroll and the Venetian, especially the Beefroll.

Quality Control issues with Rancourt?
I just picked up the Coggin Camp Mocs from huckberry, which seems to be their basic camp moc with a different sole. On the left foot where the collar wrapover meets the tongue the finishing seems really poor to me. I'm new to them as a brand, Is this standard with Rancourt?
It seems like the lip around the collar was sewn in unevenly, leaving a half inch unfinished on the inner right joint. Lovely shoes otherwise which is why I'm frustrated.

If it bothers you, return it. The shoes are handstitched, which means you sometimes get variation and cosmetic imperfection -- within reason. What is acceptable is up to the customer. I have many pairs of Rancourts and two pairs of Gilmans. One shoe on one pair of Gilmans has a similar imperfection but it never bothered me (and I have sent pairs back for loose machine stitching on the uppers which Rancourt fixed free of charge). I still wear those shoes going on four years. So I would say it's not typical but it does happen. For you, given that you posted about it and it bothers you, you might want to return it. Hope that helps.

Looks like the pre-sale is up on the page, with Baxter Ranger Moc in natty CXL and horsebit loafers in brown and black calfskin included in the mix.

I've been thinking about horsebit loafers for a while but not sure how much I'll actually wear them when I'm WFH all the time now.
