That's right after the wash (after drying obviously) so they basically fit like they did when I first got them. Once the thighs loosen up again it should be okay. I really do love the fit of them, but not so much the construction, so I'll have to look around for similar cuts with a bit better denim/construction.

I did the usual size down 3 from actual waist.

What is the variable then. All my jeans with a chain stitch rope, all without do not. I have Nudies that do and do not, a pair of Sammys that have no chain stitch and do not rope. What do I need to do to get the roping without the chainstitch?

It's all about the hem roll isn't it? how the hem is rolled before hemming determines if it will rope. Also spacing plays a big role, something like APC's won't rope because the hem is too big.
