Possible 1/2 size too big lasted shoe trees are causing a crease in my shoes?

I recently won a pair of Mackays off e-bay which came with lasted shoes trees. The size of my shoes are 10.5/11D. The lasted trees have the size 11/11.5 D printed on them. I noticed on both pairs that on the leather on the outer side of the quarter there is a weird creasing effect on the leather, distorting or misshaping the leather slightly. The trees fit in the shoe well enough, and I don't find that when putting down the heel of the tree from the hinge that I am forcing it down or anything.

I'm wondering if you think (1) the tree might be half a size too big based on the marked size, (I have also purchased 10/10.5 and 11/11.5 mackays in an effort to nail down my proper size, and I noticed that the trees corresponded in marked sizes with the shoes in those instances - or maybe there is a size overlap for the trees between 1/2 sizes) and (2) a tree 1/2 size too big can be, or is most likely, causing the crease/fold in the leather by pulling or streesing it "out of shape" so to speak? Perhaps the leather is what it is notwithstanding the trees, but these shoes appear to be "firsts." I'm going to try using standard woodlore trees to see if it reduces the stress on the leather in the mean time.
