Seiko Sarb035 - seems to be a common contender in the thread...love mine. Not sure why the image loses so much resolution when I upload it.

It might be magnetized. I'd stop by a local watchmaker to see if they can de-magnetize it before shipping it off somewhere.

Picked up the enameled dial SARX019, will try to get some real pictures soon. Picked up the laquored SARX029 as well, but will wait for my birthday to open that one.

Depends which range though. The standard ones are available through Amazon (although check other sources and price history, I bought a Seiko 5 for $50 and it's now $100).

Massdrop has some interesting ones too if you're willing to wait.

If you want some of the more exotic and interesting domestic models from Japan you can order them from Chino Watch.

SARB065 and SARB035 are probably the sweet spots for value giving a solid automatic movement and the 035 having sapphire.

Any reason why Seiko is far more popular here than Citizen? I prefer the styling of Citizen, but was curious if there were quality issues or something...

I like Citizens, but I think Seiko has a bigger range. As my budget has grown I have found much nicer Seikos available.

Seiko makes several LEGENDARY automatics, iconic, really. Seiko makes their own automatic movements, which is a big deal in a world of automatics where almost everyone else (except Rolex, notably) uses an ETA or ETA inspired movement like Selita, as far as I know.

I'm not aware of anything citizen makes with that heritage behind it.

Citizen seems to primarily make eco drive and solar movements, which many watch aficionados do not not care for.

Definitely - I've gotten a several watches from Amazon, including Seikos, which are usually priced pretty well, especially when they're on sale.

My favorite is the Seiko 5 Sports auto - I wear it almost every day (as you can see in the pic):

The SRP667K1 is one my favorite Seiko 5's.
