Well, here is my Frankenstein.
I put this combination together for under $100. (Watch, strap, clasp)
I elected to go with contrast stitching on the band. Looks smashing.
I am very pleased with the outcome, and look forward to years of use and abuse.

You could probably have it modded with hands more like the ones on the Omega. There are tons of aftermarket parts for modding Seiko 5s.

Thanks for the input earlier in the thread guys, after going shopping the sales person led me to this little beauty rather than the other two. Going to end up costing me less than a $100, which is always nice. There should be no problem dressing this one with a suit right (the original purpose of the watch, though this one is more versatile than what I was looking at before)? Thanks for the input.

Yeah, looks good and will work with suits.

I'd like some input on switching up the band on this watch. I dress casually and find the full on gold bracelet and watch difficult to wear. Does anyone have any recommendations for a strap to switch it up with? I'm contemplating a dark brown NATO, but I'm wondering if that's too modern for this piece.

NATO would look clumsy with this watch, go with a dark brown leather band. Especially since you dress casually, a leather band will fill that role and the dark brown leather will pop with that watch.

Yes, the colour scheme isn't too modern either.:) Brownisch and gradually becoming lighter on the lower side of the face, either by design or by fading due to sunlight. I don't know.

Any out of the ordinary watches? I don't see any Rado, Mido, Bucherer, Favre Leuba, etc. Doesn't anybody have any of these? They can be found at reasonable prices and would fit the "poor mans" definition.

Guys,

I have an old watch that measures about 15mm between lugs for the strap. From one of the links for straps in the last few pages I can get either a 14mm or 16mm strap. Which should I go for to fit the 15mm between lugs?

Thanks

Use 14mm. If you use 16mm, there is no gap, and will never be able to remove the strap.

Very nice. Do you mind posting links to strap and watch?

Where did you get the band?
