I've noticed no significant temperature between shell cordovan and calfskin shoes.....

Me, either. Might be a case of cold feet though.

This poll is a fail because the most obvious answer, not enough, isn't on there.

Alden black straight cap toe
Alden #8 PTB
Vass Whiskey PTB

I wore the #8 PTBs for a full day of street-walking/shopping with the wife a few days ago, and I now have a terrible sore right on the bone of my heels. I figure it's because it's the only time I've really gone a whole day of constant walking in any of my dress shoes since upgrading my wardrobe...

I wore them again yesterday and was forced to take them off after walking less than a city block. The pain shooting into each one of those spots on my heels was like daggers going in after every step!

Hopefully it's not something I have to deal with permanently

Two pairs. Alden #8 PTBs, bottom left. Florsheim imperials, to the right of the Aldens.

I just picked up the brown longwings from eBay for $12. They're AEs from the 60s, as far as I can tell. Once I cleaned off the old dirt and polish and then buffed them up, they looked virtually brand new.

Same deal with the shells - eBay for $15 - a quick buff and they're looking great.

Of course, now my "ugly" shoes are getting reamed in another thread...

I currently own 5 pair:

BBBF Black Longwings
Alden #8 Chukka
Alden #8 Captoe Boot
C&J Captoe
Hanover #8 Longwings

I love all of them. Deeply. Passionately. But amazingly we've yet to conceive.

I have to change my response from my original answer one to five. See what being part of this forum can do to a person.

My originals were some vintage #8 longwings from ebay

since I've added:

Rider split toes from Francos (I think they were called dark brown)
Alden PNB in #8
C&J for RL Darlton wingtips
Alden Whiskey longwings

Waiting for some Jump Boots for Tom at Leathersoul and I'll take a break.
