Ok, like SoCal I've been meaning to start polishing my own shoes. So I looked at the AE site for shoe polish in the chilli color for my hastings and they don't have any in wax form. They only offer polish in that color through their "premium" polish line which is dispenses by an applicator: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline...8&&imageType=2

Is this an acceptable way to polish? I figure no. So what are my alternatives? I can take a chance with other brands and hope I match the color closely (i dont mind a little deviation) or I could try the AE polish in neutral. Thoughts?

I think this is just a cream polish with an applicator. I have some old premium polish tubes (including chili) that don't have an applicator. It's a fine polish.

Also, with chili, there is huge variation with AEs. I have 4 pair of chili colored shoes and none of them are even close to being the same color. I've used chili, neutral, chestnut, brown and cordovan/merlot polish on them depending on my mood. Chili or neutral is probably the best bet if you want to keep them closest to the color they currently are.

I don't know why there need be antipathy to A-E's Premium Shoe Polish in chili. I just put a nice shine on my chili-colored Kingsley's a few hours ago. I, at any rate, thought the shine was very satisfactory. About the only time a wax polish would be advantageous over the Premium Shoe Polish would be if you were trying to put a military-style parade gloss on your shoes...at least such is my perception after plenty of experience with both.

I second this! I normally use wax sor the "spit polish" look but found the AE Chili polish (Cream with applicator) to work just fine om my Lamberts. Of course with the textured finish of the Lamberts I am not looking for a mirror finish.
