Pleats Vs. Flat Front

IMHO, flat front pants are the worst idea that men's fashion has ever imported from women's. For one, I think they look effeminate on a man to begin with. For two, and much more importantly, every pair I have ever had on is more than "uncomfortable" and is not even close to giving ample "room" to sit comfortably, and that's even after taking ones wallet out. Think about it - flat fronts were for women's pants for a reason.....

If I ever see a suit w flat front pants, I pass, no matter what the price.

Pleated men's trousers came about after flat-front ones. And they don't have to be uncomfortable or unflattering; it's a matter of finding the right cut for you.

Flat front pants are equally comfortable i find. But It certainly is more modern and youthful look to it.

i mostly wear slim cut flat fronts...but if you have some waist girth then it wont really look good and you'll be better off with pleats

the only pleated trousers i own are vintage 1950s gabardine ones, with pegged 7.5" bottoms and cuffs

FWIW - my jacket is 44 but my pants are only 34, so my problem is not waist girth. Most here say they are comfortable, but I cannot agree. I have had on three different pairs from three different makers and its always the same for me. The only pair I still have is part of a suit (in which I really like the jacket). The only solution I have has so far was to really let out the seat for more room, eventhough it looks a little funny when I am standing.

If you have a 44 chest and 34 waist that you probably have muscular thighs and butt. In my experience, 1) a *lot* of bigger guys, and especially guys who work out, won't go up a size because of vanity, and 2) the same guys try to hitch flat fronts up way to high - giving themselves an auto-wedgie, which is never, ever, comfortable. Flat front pants should generally hit just above the hips, beneath the natural waist. Try a size 36 flat front pant, (maybe get the waist taken in very slightly if necessary), wear them at the correct height, and you'll find the difference in comfort astounding. IMO, unless you are super skinny, flat front pants should *not* hug your body.

Flat front pants gives a very clean cut image IMO. Whether it is a loosely draped or tight flat front, the image projected is usually very sleek.

For pleated pants, I would go for a single pleat that is slim cut. I don't have any double-pleated pants...

Agree with LA Guy about wearing just above the hips for flat front pants to make it comfortable. Wearing high-waisted or too tight can definitely make it look awkward and uncomfortable as well.

For pleated pants, very thin men would benefit from them since it creates a bulkier image.
