I agree that it looks very good, but not perfect. I would try the 36 to compare. It is definitely a seasonal, as the staples are still $1,595, and I think I recall seeing a seasonal grey in Bloomie's in SF for $1,795. Try the RL store and Barney's (the SF Barney's has RLBL on the Coop floor, not the suit floor).

I think the seasonals may now be a touch bigger, but not noticeably so, where you'd have to change sizes. The shoulders seem to fit the same. Remember, RLBL has a more enforced shoulder than most these days so it will stand out. The one pictured above, though, looks like it extends out a bit too much. I wouldn't hesitate to wear that one if the 36 was too small, though.

Bloomingdale's should at the very least be able to get the staple charcoal one, and any of the big dept. stores will offer a discount for opening a charge account.

You can't judge the lapel roll on a buttoned up jacket.

Sleeves look a little long, but this is much better than 99% of people you will see. But if you're really looking to spend retail price, I'd want it absolutely perfect. In fact, if you had that much to spend on one suit, I'd be looking at something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/4995-Ralph-Laure...item2562bb3782 Or my choice for you: Custom Fit (slightly slimmer) 38R 3 piece suit. Purple Label>Black Label http://cgi.ebay.com/4-000-NEW-RALPH-...item563960e6c6 edit- the guy even has a 7 day return policy. Pros- Purple Label is better than Black Label Retail Price on this is significantly higher You'd be saving money It's a 3 piece, and you don't have to wear the vest More interesting pattern Return Policy I think it looks nicer Cons- Not a solid charcoal like you were looking for. You have to deal with shipping

Don't be offended -not intended-
but your head in the photo looks large. Other posts talking about size down and shoulders should be smaller -i can't help but think this might be problematic.
If the suit is meant to compliment you and your proportions -then I'm questioning the scale of the shoulder /jacket in relation to your head.
FWIW I own a RL black label and really enjoy the suit -but got it at considerably less than the price you are quoting.

That's actually a really good point. Also, the trousers appear to fit really well, so the trousers from a 36 might not. Can you take in suit sleeves? Besides the sleeves being a bit long (as easy a fix as there ever was) they look a bit baggy. Also remember, in order to pull off the suit-with-a-polo-or-tee look, the suit has to be much, much more fitted, while wearing it formally with a dress shirt and tie does not require this. Therefore, with the full getup, I think it will look better.
